Shinichi woke, shaking and covered in a chilling sweat. He'd had the same nightmare before, but he'd never gotten used to it. It was always the same. His friends disappeared one by one, killed by the Black Organization, before he was left alone, smothered with murder cases of those particular friends. He'd be cornered by the BO and almost killed, Gin laughing at him. Shinichi always woke up the same time he was about to be killed. No one knew about the dream.

He sighed and got out of bed to have a shower. He pulled on some sweat pants and walked downstairs for coffee before he remembered his machine was dead, instantly groaning and feeling like kicking everyone out. Shinichi walked through to the living room and heard someone's feet thudding against the floor, obviously pacing. Roko was growling out worried words about coffee-obsessed detectives. Shinichi sighed and opened the door, headed for the antique cupboard in there. It held a few books, stationary, a Bowie Knife, two P245's and bandages he wrapped around his hands and knuckles when training with the punching bag. He wrapped the bandages around, ignoring the curious looks from the occupants in the room, and headed down to the basement.

Shinichi knew everyone had followed him and Roko was first to speak.
"Shinichi?" he asked, nervously.
"Hm?"
"Are you mad?"
"...Noooooo, Roko. I'm not mad you smashed up my coffee machine so I'd eat. You were doing what you thought was right."
"Oh, god. Shinichi. I'm really sorry."

The group were in the basement now, which Shinichi had turned into a training room. He walked to his punching back and breathed out before beating at it. The bag was made to be heavy, yet it kept swinging back with every punch and ripped slightly. As Shinichi roundhouse kicked it, the chains holding it up snapped, sending it flying to the over side of the room. He sighed and stretched, ignoring the gasps and worried noises coming from behind him.

"Um... Shinichi... I'll pay for the new machine..." Roko got out shakily. Shinichi looked back with a sweet smile that failed to hide it's sinister intent.

"Oh. really? That's good. I guess we can go get one right now, ne?" he asked brightly. To any other, they'd think he was being a snooty brat. To Roko, it was a threat with the intent to kill behind it. Roko nodded furiously while Hakuba, Heiji and Kaito just gaped. Shinichi left to get ready, coming back wearing a light blue suit.

They spent half the day searching for a decent machine. Shinichi found one he liked and brought it home with him, plugging it in and immediately making himself a cup of coffee. Roko looked devastated. "All my money... Why do you have to pick the priciest coffee machines?" Roko whined. Shinichi glared.

"You made mine into a lump of coffee and metal." was his only answer. Now he had his coffee he sat down at the table and sipped at it. Shinichi looked over the rim of the mug at the four. "What did you come up here for? I know you need something."

Roko looked nervously between the other three. Heiji looked ready to collapse, Hakuba was pale but Kaito was smiling, though it was weak and wavering. Shinichi felt a little bad for them. They'd just seen what he was capable of and they came here to ask for something important, it seemed. He raised an eyebrow, waiting patiently as they all collected their courage.

"Ano... These three are transferring to our school, but they don't live anywhere near it and you live in a mansion, so I thought..." Roko trailed off.

"That they could stay here?" Shinichi finished for him. Roko nodded and he sighed. Closing his eyes, Shinichi took time to think about it rationally. Finally, he nodded. "Okay. But any trouble and I'll kick you out. No going in the library, my room's off limits and don't go in the basement when I'm down there. Don't. Break. Anything."

Roko cheered and picked Shinichi up from his seat, dancing with him a little around the kitchen. Shinichi collapsed after a few twirls, dizzy. Then he sighed tiredly, remembering something he had to tell them.

"It's soundproof in my room. Well, every room is soundproof. Just to let you know, so it won't do anything if you scream up stairs to someone." he went back to sipping the last of his coffee and Roko looked at him with narrowed eyes. Shinichi knew what he wanted to ask, but ignored him. Some time later, Shinichi started dozing in his seat. It was partly because of having no sleep, but also partly because of all that had happened. Roko smiled softly as he saw Shinichi's eyes flutter and head lower. Carefully, as to not wake him, Roko took Shinichi up into his room. Ignoring the warm feeling in his chest, he changed Shinichi into a pair of silk p-j's and laid him down in the bed, tucking him in.

"Roko! We're back!" Heiji called from downstairs. They'd gone out for a little while to get their bags from home. Roko closed Shinichi's door behind him and glared at the three from the top of the stairs.

"Shh!" he hissed, slightly agitated. "Shinichi's gone to sleep properly for the first time in days." Heiji quickly shut his mouth and Hakuba looked surprised.

"In days?" Hakuba asked quietly. Roko nodded and Hakuba looked thoughtful. Then he smiled. "We'll make sure he goes to bed at least once every two days." Roko sighed, a little relieved. He went back to check on Shinichi and frowned.

"Oi, Hakuba. Get me a bowl of warm water and a flannel." he muttered to the blond. Hakuba nodded and set to work while Heiji and Kaito looked worried.

"Is he alright? Can we come up and see him?" Kaito asked. Roko beckoned them up as he disappeared into the room.

Quietly, Roko creeped across the floor. Hakuba came in with a large bowl of water and a folded flannel. Carefully, he set it on Shinichi's bedside table as the other two came in. Roko soaked the cloth and wrung it out so it was only damp, wiping Shinichi's face with it. He repeated this, laying it on his forehead instead. Shinichi had a pained look on his face and was panting slightly, drenched with sweat.

"Is he okay?" Kaito asked again, worry rising in his voice. Roko sighed and nodded, asking for a thermometer. Heiji obliged and got one from downstairs. It read a high temperature when placed into Shinichi's mouth and Roko frowned.

"Oh dear..."
