Chapter One- The Beginning

"Move!"

I jumped to my right as a cyclist drove me out of the pathway, making me drop my umbrella and allowing the torrential rain to fall on the only decent coat I have.

"Geez! Thank you so much for kindly adorning the only presentable coat i have with your art that is so aesthetically pleasing!" I shouted, sarcasm dripping from my voice.

Some kind of curse might have been inflicted on me, because ever since this morning, I've been experiencing some pretty shitty things. The first thing that started my dilemma was my English project falling from the bookshelf and giving my head a high-five, successfully waking me up from my deep slumber. Next thing that happened was my dog pretty much digging up the flowers I've planted to hide the bones he found, and things pretty much escalated from there. So it's safe to say I've had my own share of shitty experiences.

I picked up my umbrella and started walking towards the street vendor that I usually bought all the ingredients at.

"Good Morning Mrs Shapiro. How are you?" I warmly greeted the woman, whom I treated as a second mother.

"Oh hi Amelia! I'm fine dearie no need to worry about me. I can still stand" she said with a chuckle. "How about you?" Was her ardent reply.

"Still the same old toothless little girl who stole a carrot from your store by telling you of her vampire heritage" i said with a huge smile.

I was 8 years old by the way when that happened. I could still remember her shocked face when i told her i needed carrots and threatened her that I had vampire blood within me and that i could suck the blood out of her if she didn't cooperate.

She tipped her head back and released a full blown laugh promising me a basket full of carrots.
And that was where our tenacious, but warm friendship started.

I then took out the list of ingredients I need to buy.

She prepared everything and stored them in my paper bag.

"Here's chicken soup for your mother, greet her for me, okay? I wish her the best." She told me as she handed everything back to me including the chicken soup.

"How much is everything?"

"Don't worry Dearie. Consider it as a birthday present."

My heart swelled up with so much joy, because even though Mrs Shapiro was nearing her 80's, she still remembered my birthday.

I attacked her with hugs and kisses, not bothering to say anything because I know that words were simply not enough for me to express my gratitude for this caring woman.

"Thank you so much." I kissed her on the cheek as I bid her farewell.

As I continued to walk down the street market, a throng of people crowding over a flashy truck caught my attention.

"Oh my gosh! Sebastian Watson is joining the game!"

"One million dollars? Just for a love potion game? Wow, this is totally sick dude! We should join."

"I might just find the love of my life here!"

I caught snippets of conversations here and there but what statement that really made me stay was the resounding 'One Million Dollars' echoing through my head. I was poor and we were easily attracted to these things, such as coupons, and freebies.

I tenaciously made my way to the front, since I was being squished by what looked like people my age trying to get to the front as much as possible.

"Excuse me." I kept on saying as I covered my ears from the harmful shrieking that the girls on my left was doing. When I arrived at my destination, a big, flamboyant poster caught my attention.

"The Social Experiment.  The victor would be rewarded One Million Dollars if he or she would be the last one standing without falling in love."

Wow, what a stupid thing to blow away One Million Dollars.

"Excuse me miss, would you like to join this game?" asked a pink-suited girl whilst handing me one of their flyers.

"Um, no thanks." I'd rather not. This was stupid.

"Oh, ok, but if you ever change your mind, here's my contact number." I took the small piece of paper where her name and number was scribbled on. I should probably throw this, but something makes me want to keep this in my pocket.

I don't know where this small piece of paper could take me.

Looking at my mother right know sucked my soul out of me.

Pale skin, white lips, and weakened limbs, were the things you could use to describe my mom.

"Hey Mom, I'm home."

Seeing my mom like this made me think of joining that contest. No matter how stupid it is. Because I know it's the only way to save the most important person in my life.

After I called Patricia, (a.k.a. the pink suited girl.) I packed up my things, bid my mom farewell, and off I went to the gathering area, which was St. Peter's Square.

I was greeted with balloons and postcards all saying "Good luck contenders!" as I made my way through the throng of fans that surrounded the gathering area.

"Hey, um, excuse me. Girl-who's-part-of-the-game coming through."

After I ducked the arms of the last line of people that obscured my view of what was going on, I made my way towards the group of individuals all carrying bags with them.

"Hey, I'm here for the contest."

"Come here, we're still waiting for the choppers to arrive."

Ride in a chopper

Check!

These people are seriously burning money for no reason, but, oh well.

The chopper landed in a place that somewhat resembled an island. I don't really know how we got here because they placed blindfolds over our eyes.

"Everyone gather here. For our competition is officially going to start."

I picked up my duffel bag, braced myself and blended in with everyone.

"I now welcome you to the first ever Game of Love!"

A/N

Hey guys :D

So I'm in dire need of a new cover. That one is just temporary. Because I suck at making covers.

So if there ever is a kind human being out there reading this note, please do tell me if you can make a cover. It would help me a lot.

Anyways, lovelots,

Jazzel
