He had given up ages ago. Now that he thought about it the pain that rivalry cost him wasn't enough to even out the relief of saving the earth. Dib often wondered if the alien was even ever real. Multiple therapist told him he was't so why did Zim always feel so real.
The car honked and he stepped on the breaks. He'd hadn't been paying attention to actually driving. This is when he would call his therapist and tell them he was having the thoughts again.
He didn't feel like it this time, he was tired of it all. When he was a small child (maybe 3, he didn't know exactly) he remembered seeing aliens but everyone thought he was insane. Including his father.
He hadn't seen his father in years. He was 23 and he hadn't seen his father since he was 15. He wanted to fix everything that had happened between them. But it's hard to fix something if you aren't clear on what the problem is. His therapist has told him that it's a wonderful idea. Connecting with his father should help him with his mental stability.
He turns his blinker on and switches lanes. If it's so good for his mental health; he should just get it over with. What will he even say? Dad, you we're kind of a dick to me and now I'm crazy apparently, thanks for that. How have you been?
Oh god his old house. Dib stepped out of his car. lots of good memories here and lots of bad ones. The door even feels the same as he raps his knuckles against it. Still tall and somewhat creepy. Some "memories" of Zim pop up but he ignores them. Thats what he's supposed to do. Ignore everything weird and wrong about himself and pretend to be normal.
No one is answering the door. This worries him a bit because it would seem his dad is home. "Dad? Its me, Dib!" He rattles the doorknob. This seems wrong, something isn't right.
The door is open and he enters. Everything is still int he same position. It sends him back again but he pushes the thoughts away. "Dad?!"
He can hear some noises down in the lab so he starts there. It's so strange that everything is the same. He descends the staircase down to the lab and he knows something is wrong.
The lab is all different but thats expected. Theres a large person standing in the light, same height as his dad. Except he knows that its not, because the figure is Irken. The same species as Zim.
Part of him is so excited to know he's not crazy. This is happening. An alien is in his old home. The Irken has blue eyes hidden by goggles and long antenna that bend and curve in two different spots.
The other part of him is freaking out. An irken is in his old home and he can't find his dad.
"Son?" The Irken has his fathers voice. "What are you doing here?"
Realization dawns on him. This alien has his fathers lab coat on. This is his dad. "Look how tall you are!" his dad walks forward but he backs up.
"I" he grasps for words, " I don't understand."
"I'm sure this is very confusing for you."
"Yes! It is!" His brain hurts and he just wants to lay down.
"Please, calm down."
"I don't understand! You're an alien" He presses a hand to his temple, "You never even told us, does Gaz even know!?"
"I think she does, but I never told her. When you were very young I took off my disguise all the time. I had to keep it secret, it was for your own good."
Dib could remember now. Playing with the long antenna and his dads long fingers. He couldn't really think. It was too confusing. Everything felt like it was falling down around him. It was all true, he could remember it all.
