It has been a week since i had that dream. I can't shake that boy out of my mind.
Was he the one who saved me?
I didn't know.
"(Name)! Get down here!" The Matron demanded.
"Yes, ma'am." I call back. Luggage in hand, i walk down the stairs.
"Here are your papers," she hands the documents to me. "I know we didn't get along very well, but i will miss you, dear." She sighs as tears form in her eyes.
"Matron..." I stare at her sorrowful expression.
"You are free to go." She smiles, opening the door. "I have arranged for you to work at the small café down the street. You will be staying with one of your coworkers, as well."
I throw my arms around her and embrace the woman I've called 'Mother' for the past eleven years. "You are the closest thing I've had to a mother for most of my life," i begin. "Thank you so much, Mother."
"You're welcome, (Name). Happy Eighteenth Birthday."
I wave goodbye to all of the children as i make my way to the café.
Welcome to Nordic Café!
"The Nordic Cafè, hm?" I smile at the colorful sign and walk inside.
"Hello there!" A short, blonde haired man welcomes me. "My name is Tino, and i will be your server this evening!"
"Ah, yes, my name is (Name)." I speak. "I am actually the new worker from the orphanage."
"You're (Name)?" His eyes flutter in surprise. "Nice to meet you! I didn't know Rosetta was sending such a beautiful, young girl!"
My cheeks become red and i scratch the back of my head. "T-Thank you."
He smiles at me and gestures for me to follow him. "Matthias! Berwald! Lukas!"
Three men emerge from the back room.
"What is it, Tino?" The man with the cross barrette in his hair asks. The tallest one eyes me suspiciously without a single word escaping his lips.
"Who is this young thing?" The one with the spiked hair throws his arm over my shoulder. "Hun er smuk! Jeg kunne bare kysse dig overalt!" (1)
"Matthias!" Tino scolds him like a child. "Älä sano tuollaista on niin suloinen tyttö!" (2)
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He laughs.
The man with the barrette rolls his eyes and extends his hand out to me. "I'm sorry about him, he has... issues. My name is Lukas; and you are?"
"Nice to meet you Lukas, I'm (Name)." I smile while taking his hand.
"Pleasures all mine." His face remains expressionless as he introduces the rest of the men. "This one here is Berwald," he gestures to the tallest man. "And this idiotisk faen is Matthias." Tino quickly covers my ears.
"Lukas! Do not use that language!" He frowns.
"Yea, sorry." Lukas shrugs his shoulders.
"Hm." Berwald stares daggers at the emotionless Norwegian.
"There's also another person who works here," Matthias smiles. "But he has been really busy lately; he said something about finding someone? I don't know."
"I see." I nod in understanding.
"Anyways," Tino places his hands on my shoulders and stares into my eyes. "You ready to start?"
"Ready, sir!"
"Here is your apron. Put your hair up too!" He smiles as he hands me the cloth before exiting the room.
"Yessir!" I set down my suitcase and take the apron. "What shall i do first?"
"Waiting tables." Matthias smirks. Lukas rolls his eyes once more before roughly grabbing Matthias' tie and dragging him to the front.
"He makes it sound hard." I sigh. I jump in surprise at the sudden pressure on my shoulder. I look up and see Berwald peering into my face.
"It isn't hard at all. You will do a good job." His lips slightly curve into a smile.
"Thank you, Berwald." He nods and pats my head before walking after Lukas. "If Berwald has faith in me, so should i!" I slip on my apron and tie my hair into a ponytail. Just as i was about to exit the backroom, someone forced the doors open.
"I'm back!"
