I tried

I prepared everything

I recited the words in my head

over and over

Until I had it perfect

For you

But I turned to do it

My friend said "You know you don't have to do it today"

She noticed

She had noticed that I was terrified

I said "I know, but I have to for her."

I was trembling, playing with my hands

She nodded but knew what I meant

I was doing it for me

I looked at you

I tried to say your name

I couldn't

I tried to run up to you

I couldn't

My knees were weak

My knees couldn't hold the weight of my body anymore

I turned back around to my friend

I sighed

I tried to calm down

The bell rang

I couldn't breathe

You ran out

I felt like a failure

My knees wouldn't stop shaking until I got home
