I woke up with a headache and a pulsing pain in the back of my skull. I should really try to get more sleep at night and maybe I wouldn't have these damn headaches all the time. I slowly opened my eyes and rubbed them with the back of my hands and felt my mascara clump off onto my hands.
Damn. I must've forgotten to wash my makeup off when I got home. That's when I realized. I was not in my bedroom. I wasn't even home.
I sat up from the hard mattress I had been sleeping on and looked around the unfamiliar room. The walls were plain concrete. On the opposite side of the room, there was a dark, old wooden door with a wood chair placed next to it. The lighting was very dim and came from a lamp in the far corner.
What happened last night?
I jumped as the door opened suddenly. A tall, very muscular man stepped through the door and into the room. He looked oddly familiar to me.
"Look who's finally up. I thought you were gonna sleep all morning." He said with a smirk. That voice... it was so familiar..... That's it! It was the same man that was in Avery's room last night.
'Avery! Where is she?' I thought as concern for my little sister started to swell inside of me.
"Where's my sister?" I demanded in a hoarse voice. I cleared my throat and continued in a smoother voice, "Where am I?"
"Now, now." the man said, "Save your questions for the boss."
Then he turned and walked back from the way he came. Only minutes later, the door opened once again and in stepped a woman followed by the man from before.
Her hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail and her lips were stained with a light colored lipstick. She wore a black blouse along with a black pencil skirt and simple, dark red heels.
After taking a few steps in the room, she stopped and crossed her arms and studied me carefully before speaking.
"Well it's nice to see that you're up, Ms. Delvalle."
"It's Chloe..." I said rather harshly and looked down at my black combat boots.
"My mistake, Chloe. My name is Lucy Gerald." the woman said as she took a few small steps towards me. The sound of her red heels echoed slightly in the small, nearly empty room.
Since I didn't reply, the woman continued to speak. "You are probably wondering where you are right now. Well, I shall answer that question for you."
I looked back up at Lucy, as this had caught my attention.
'Maybe she can tell me where Avery is...'
The man then grabbed the chair that was beside the door and placed it in the middle of the room before stepping back and standing next to the door. Probably just in case I tried to make a run for it.
"Thank you Sam." Lucy said as she sat down and crossed her legs.
"You're currently in the basement of my company. You see, upstairs, I run a little business." she said smoothly and folded her perfectly manicured hands and placed them on her knee.
"What kind of business...?" I asked cautiously. I hoped to God that she wasn't in the business that kidnapped girls like me and then sold them for men's pleasure.
"You see Chloe, people come to me when they want certain tasks done. Then Sam here, as well as my other employee, get those tasks taken care of." Lucy explained to me carefully. I didn't exactly like how she said the word tasks.. what kind of tasks did she mean?
"Can you please just tell me where Avery is?" I begged. The concern of my sister's location and well being grew within me with every second. I needed to know that she was okay.
"Your sister is safe, so don't worry about that." she said.
"Can- can I see her? Please?" I asked trying to be polite.
"Of course you can." Lucy says as if it's the most simple request.
"When?" I asked impatiently.
"Patience Chloe. Let me explain what you must happen for you to see her again." she smiled sinisterly.
"Please. I'll do anything. Just let me see her. I need to know that she's okay..." I said and bit my lip, which was a bad habit of mine when I was stressed or anxious.
Lucy then stood from the wooden chair and stood to the side of it. "I have a little proposal for you then. If you wish to see your sister, I need something from you..." Lucy said as she placed a hand on the back of the wooden chair.
"What could you possibly need from me?" I asked a bit confused. I hope they weren't going to ask me to pay a ransom. However, even if they did I would find a way to pay it off. I don't care how long it took, I would get the money.
"Oh, it's nothing terrible. I just need you to complete a little task." Lucy said with a small smirk.
"As long as I get to see Avery, I'll do it." I stood from the bed as I spoke. I regretted it right away because all the blood seemed to rush to my head and my vision blurred a bit. The pounding in my head increased a little. I steadied myself by placing my hand on the metal bed post.
"Of course. So it's a deal then?" she asked as she stuck her hand out for me to shake.
With a firm grasp, I shook her hand.
"Deal." I spoke and never have I been so sure of my words.
"I'll send someone to get you for breakfast in a little while then." Lucy spoke and with that, she turned and started to walk out of the room with Sam close behind her.
"Wait." I said as she reached the doorway, "What is it exactly that you need me to do?"
"Oh, it's just one thing." she turned to glance at me with a smirk plastered on her colored lips.
"We need you to join our team."
And then the door slammed shut.
