Blake’s POV
“Blake?” a voice beamed through Hazel and Chase’s house. I looked up from my purse, which I was currently digging through, to glance behind me to the source of the booming voice. Chase turned a corner and charged towards me with a grimace.
“Chase, are you ok?” I asked, turning in my seat.
“Where is my wife?” he demanded, letting out a big breath of air.
“She’s picking up Jayden and Lily from school. I came over to wait for her. Why?” I said, furrowing my brows.
“I need her to be here for me to kick some sense into you!” he screamed, getting angry again.
“Chase, what’s going on?” I asked more earnestly. I saw him clutching his right hand when I glanced down. “What did you do to your hand?”
“I punched your husband.” He responded nonchalantly.
“WHAT?” I screeched.
“Blake, we’re home!” Hazel announced as she rounded the same corner Chase had moments before. Jayden and Lily followed behind her with their school bags.
“Lily and Jayden, please go upstairs to play.” Chase said through gritted teeth. I continued to glare at him as Hazel stared at us with a confused look. I heard Jayden and Lily run out of the kitchen and up the stairs. No one said anything until we heard the upstairs play room door closed.
“What the hell is going on in here?” Hazel demanded.
“Our best friend is a lying, cheating prick and his wife won’t admit it to herself!” Chase replied.
“You don’t even know what you’re talking about!” I shot back.
“No thanks to you! You don’t tell me anything! We are supposed to be friends.” Chase shouted.
“Will someone tell me what happened?” Hazel yelled, stepping in between Chase and me.
“I went into the office today to work with Justin on some new songs. He showed up an hour late with some blonde bitch on his arm, acting all lovey dovey. When I asked who she was, he told me she was just a friend. Then I asked if Blake knew about it all and he said he didn’t care if you knew.” Chase explained.
“And why did you punch him?” I asked sarcastically.
“Because. I asked if this Amber bitch was the reason he was missing all of Jayden’s school things, he said yes. So I punched him.” Chase replied.
“Good, he deserves it.” Hazel said, calming down.
“What?” I replied angrily.
“He does Blake! Are you blind? He’s cheating on you with that girl!” Hazel spat harshly at me.
“No he isn’t! Their just friends! He wouldn’t do that to me.”
“Then why are they always together? Why is he so willing to drop everything to be with her?” Chase asked.
“I’ll admit they spend a lot of time together, but Justin and I talked. He loves me and he wouldn’t cheat on me.” I replied, keeping my head high. Chase’s shoulders slouched and he looked down at his feet.
“Blake, you can believe what you want, but whether or not he actually is cheating, what he’s doing is wrong. He shouldn’t be placing some girl he barely knows before his family and friends.” Chase explained softly. I glanced at him and Hazel. They both met my eyes and gave me a look of sympathy.
“No, he loves me.” I replied shakily.
“Blake, I think you better find out for sure. If he doesn’t, well, you need to do something.” Hazel said softly. My eyes bounced between Hazel and Chase.
He loved me.
Justin was my husband, the father of my child.
He loved ME, not HER.
“Maybe you guys are right.” I whispered, tears welling in my eyes. Silence enveloped the kitchen as Hazel and Chase shared a few meaningful glances. I blinked back my tears as my mind and heart came to terms with my new revelation.
“Blake, we will keep Jayden for now. I think you need to go have a talk with your husband.” Chase finally suggested. I didn’t have the strength or emotional stability to look up, so I nodded and stood up with my purse to leave the house.
“We’ll be here when you are done, no matter what happens.” Hazel muttered after me. I turned, shot them a small smile, and continued out of the house towards my car.
I had put this off for long enough. I needed to know what was going on with my husband and Amber.
***
I parked my car inside of the private parking lot behind Justin and Chase’s music office. I took a deep breath before exiting my car and making my way inside. The receptionist told me what studio Justin was in and I quickly maneuvered myself through the hallways until I came to studio 13. I opened the door and braced myself for the worst.
Justin and Amber were siting in 2 office chairs in front of the sound board, laughing and hitting various buttons. When they heard the door close behind me, Amber glanced up and saw me by the door. She nudged Justin’s side and he glanced up too. His smile fell from his face and he turned off the music that was playing in the background. I saw a bruise forming along his jaw and I smiled a little at the sight of it. Go Chase.
“Hey Blake, what are you doing here?” Justin asked expectantly.
“I wanted to talk about your relationship with Amber and why everyone seems to think that you’re cheating on me.” I spat, straight to the chase. There was no reason to beat around the bush anymore. I promised myself to gain a backbone, so I was.
“I think I better leave. This is a conversation to be had between you two, alone.” Amber said as she gathered her things, looking at the carpet.
“Yeah, thanks for staying out of our marriage.” I said hatefully as she walked out of the room. She turned around, giving me an apologetic look, as her eyes filled with sorrowful tears. For a moment, my heart hurt for her. Maybe, just maybe, Justin was playing both of us. I actually felt for Amber in that moment.
My thoughts for Amber were stopped when Justin spoke up. “That was rather bitchy of you, Blake.”
“Excuse me, but it’s been a long day. Chase came in guns a blazing about her, so excuse me for being a little on edge.” I spat. Justin’s demeanor relaxed a little.
“Yeah, he got me pretty good.” He said, pointing to his chin.
“Justin, what is going on with Amber? Please, be honest with me. You owe me that much.” I pleaded.
“I just feel guilty I guess. I just want to be there for her after what I did to her.” he said, trying to explain while looking more and more guilty.
“What happened was an accident. You don’t need to devote your life to her.” I replied.
“Maybe I just got bored with my life and she made me happy.” He said, shrugging his shoulders. I felt my heart literally break as he spoke those words. He realized what he had said too late and glanced up with a look of horror. I stared back at him, not saying anything until I found the words to speak again.
“I just need to know. Just tell me, please. Do you even love me anymore?” I asked.
“Yes, of course Blake. You know that, I’m your husband!” He said quickly, reaching for my hands. I pulled them back and took a deep breath.
“Are you in love with me?”
The distinctive pounding in my chest, telling me that I was alive, was gone. My heart had completely stopped. Somewhere in amidst of waiting for Justin’s reply, there was a cease and desist order. My heart didn’t want to be around when he broke us in two.
After a long and painful minute, Justin looked up at me with absolutely no emotion in his face. His normally golden eyes were dark and hollow now, leaving me already in despair as he answered with a simple and devastating, “No.”
