"Haylee, if I told you I loved you, what would you do?" A voice rings in my ear.
"I don't know. Gosh Derek slow down, we've been together for almost three years. I really don't think that's long enough to know if you love someone." I tell him. As a Junior in high school, I really didn't want to be pondering over if I loved someone. I think love is something that takes a really long time to build. I knew that I really liked him, but I wouldn't go as far as love.
"Haylee seriously, I know you take this whole love thing really seriously, I do too, but what do you think you would do?"
"I don't know. To be honest I wouldn't say it back, that's for sure." His phone rings just as I finish saying this, he gives me the 'I have to take it' look and walks out of the room. Being with Derek is tricky. He's overprotective, he gets jealous easily, and he expects me to drop everything for him.
Derek and I have been together for three years and counting. He's a Senior and I am a Junior. We met my sixth grade year and became best friends. We started dating my freshman year. He was the popular jock and I was the unsocial geek, but that's changed since we got together. He's still the super popular jock, but now I'm the chic, hot, popular girl that should be dating the jock.
"Hey gorgeous, sorry that was my brother on the phone. He just got to Texas for his Air Force training." Derek says as he walks back in the room.
"Hey. How's he feeling? Is he nervous?" I ask. Derek's brother, Cody, is the most amazing brother anyone could ever ask for. He used to do anything for Derek. That was before he moved away.
"He says he was nervous on the ride down there but now that he's there he says he's super excited." Derek tells me. "I can't wait, one more year and I'll be doing the exact same thing"
Derek is determined to be just like his brother, polished and perfect. I really can't say anything though because that's how they were raised. Derek had a stay at home mom that cleaned the house every day and always had dinner on the table as soon as his dad walked through the door. He's only ever known the privileged life.
As for me, things are a bit different.
