"You know I care for you and will do anything. I can't help you if I don't know what the problem is. So tell me." His linger voice hushed. My hazel marble eyes turn away from my ice-cream and gaze up at Harry. "You think you can teach me how to fight?" I ask him out of the blue keeping a straight face. Harry is smart enough to figure out what happened and who the 'ghost' was. "If he comes near you today, or even looks in your way," he clenches his fist that's not holding the ice-cream, "I will put him into place." Those angry words that were just spoken through gritted teeth were his way of reassuring me that I will be safe under his wings.
I spark a cosy smile and Harry relaxes his hands. "I've got work, you've got work. You can't always be there for me." I pause dramatically and give him time to take in what I've just uttered. His face is blank, reality hit him hard. I know I'm his princess but we've got to face the facts.
"I will always be there for you," Harry re-enforces in a rigid tone, "you are mine and no one else's." Hazel eyes trembling, I hesitate to respond to such a profound fact. The cold solid is now a liquid and drips down the side of my cone. Not in the mood for ice cream anymore, I dispose what's left of it in the nearest bin.
"What if he comes on to me again? Ups his level and attacks me?" I hesitantly ask. A flush of anger flows through Harry's system like a tap that's fully open. "He won't. I'll make sure." With those words said he cracks his knuckles in rage. I sigh in annoyance that Harry isn't listening to me and start to walk faster, away from my boyfriend. When did the rain become a storm? When did the clouds begin to form?
He just said he'll do anything for me and now he's being like that? I think he's the one that's giving me shit now. Why does he have to be that protective? I love how he cares for me but seriously, I can take care of myself. My mind triggers back to this morning.
Holy shit.
What a fool I've been.
What if.
I'm Sarah.
And Greg.
is Rowan?
Fuck.
I sit down on the bench. My world crashes down inside while I subtly try to maintain my normal look on the outside. I'm now at the bottom of the street and very close to the park where I broke down yesterday. I stare at air. Figures flash by me. I zone out and my brain basically shuts down.
"I count the ways I let you down, on my fingers and toes but I'm running out." Harry's warm tone soothes in my ear. I don't remember when he got here but all I care about right now is being with him. How was I so blind?
He's like an angel. His arms slowly spread around my back and my body hauls towards his. "No! No more crying and hiding! I don't want to do this anymore! All I do is cry and you pick up the pieces of my heart!" I outburst quietly, "I was afraid of the dark but now it's all that I want." The words fought for attention, whispering to Harry that I was ready to face him.
"Is that really what you want?" Harry lets go of me, unwrapping his arms from my back. I sit up straight while he cups my small cold hands. "Yes." I whisper. "Ok babe, I'll teach you. But promise me one thing," he pauses, "that you won't go in looking for a fight; only use your new found skills for protection." I nod my head up and down agreeing to his terms and conditions.
We both stand up from the bench and continue our walk. "Only positive thinking babe!" Harry comments. We get to the end of the road and wander into the bush land area that comes before the bridge. We carefully get through it, walking on a visible path. Harry leads the way and steps on the rocky tiles.
I follow him, placing one foot in front of the other carefully, trying not to damage my uggs. Harry gently grips his big hands on my hips and swoops me up. I relax in his arms as he carries me towards the bridge. Rubbing my nose smoothly up against his, I smile and give him an Eskimo kiss.
He puts me down and my feet touch the old wooden slates of the bridge. Water rushes down over hundreds of rocks as it flows down from the waterfall. Harry's hands still positioned on my waist, he pulls me in closer to his chest. His rugged brown curls brush up against the top of my forehead as he leans in closer and whispers in my ear.
I giggle in response to his offer and bite my pink plump lip. His green marble orbits stare down at me and hands travel up and down the side of my body. "You have 3 seconds to run." He cheekily purrs in a sexy tone. Not wasting any time, I break free from his light grasp on my body. Eyes skimming for an area to hide, I notice a thick bush that I can hide behind.
I tiptoe to my secret location, observing my surroundings and making sure Harry wasn't peeking. I bend my knees and squat down behind the leaves. "Ready or not here I come." I hear Harry's raspy voice in the distance. It felt good to relax for a while. We got knocked off course by a natural force but now we're swimming towards full freedom. Slowly and steadily we will get there.
Leaves crunch under Harry's feet as he eagerly tries to find me. I can see the top of his grey beanie in the distance. My eyes track the tall muscular figure, darting from side to side, like watching a tennis match. I look down at my feet to reposition them without making my hiding spot obvious. I dart my head up to see where Harry is and if he's close.
My eyes scan the perimeter horizontally and vertically. I can't see Harry. Where could he be? I just saw him here a couple of seconds ago. While I'm busy searching for my little cupcake, I feel ominous fingers track up my spine and curl around my shoulders. I hesitantly swivel my head slowly to find out who this mysterious person is. Scared, I force myself to look. My heart is beating out of chest and I breathe silently.
