I looked around. A thick mist shrouded the tall trees that were dark and skeletal, reaching out like bony fingers. I exhaled and a fine mist billowed out of my mouth, my short sleeved tee and jeans were doing a poor job of keeping me warm, I sat up and wrapped my arms around myself in a pitiful attempt to heat up my midsection. Where the hell am I? Ok, lets back things up a bit to my friend Cheyenne's house.

I walked own the sidewalk, slinking closer to the the wall of trees and brush that cast a cool shadow that felt refreshing in the hot July day. When the foliage broke, I was now standing under a new shadow. I stood in wake of the tall stone house, it was as beautiful as it was old with decades worth of ivy climbing up the old cracked wall, grasping desperately in a race to the top, that was a good enough reason for the aged vines. I walked up the path, my big black army boots clanking rhythmically on the stones. I grabbed the big brass door knocker that was in the shape of a lion laying across the large hoop as if protecting it. I banged it a good three times against the mahogany door, I heard the echo of the sound entering the room, filling it, then circling around and back to where it began. I heard the tap of footsteps leading up the the door, soon followed by the door swinging inward with a loud creak noise as if it hadn't been oiled in years. It probably hadn't.

"Hey Lux. What are you doing here?" Cheyenne asked, her head of full curls writhing with the slightest movement.

"I came to hang out if your not too busy."

"Um, no, dad and I just finished lunch and he was about to head back to work. It's pretty much have the whole day to myself" Ok, so, Cheyenne's dad and mom had a huge, messy blowout that was quickly followed by a divorce, her mom was doing some shady stuff, I don't know if it was alcohol, drugs, or just bad parenting (Cheyenne won't tell me and I won't ask.), which means her dad gets custody and frankly, she isn't complaining. Anyway, her dad always wanted to move out of their old house, but never got a chance, but now, the skies were cleared and the opportunity sprung when someone took interest in their house, they found this house, it was pretty cheap considering its size and background story, plus, it was only a block or two away from my house, they jumped on the offer and have already moved in. They love it and find something new and cool about it every day, its called the Mist Grove Mansion, even though its technically to small to be a mansion.

"Great. My mom and dad are both gone for the day and I don't really have anything to do so..."

"Yeah, come in." She backed up, I stepped in and shut the door. The interior is made out of the same mahogany as the door and was laden with great big swords hung on wooden plaques(her medieval obsessed dad's handiwork. It definitely adds a certain ambiance to the already medieval like architecture). The short hallway fed into a living room with two small couches surrounding a TV set on a dresser. The walls in here were stone. She took me through this room and into the kitchen. It looked like a modern kitchen except with old wood walls and ceiling with the original engravings of leaf like patterns. It had an island in the middle with two wooden stools placed behind it. Directly in front of the island is a black gas stove. to the left of the stove was the sink and dishwasher, and to the left of that was the fridge. Cheyenne opened the fridge door and pulled out two Coke cans and handed one of them to me. Cheyenne was the type of person that wasn't rich but was wealthy enough to afford common luxuries that my family can't afford, like always having a cold Coke waiting in the fridge.

"Thanks." I said, popping the top and taking a sip. The little bubbles tickling my lip. She popped hers, took a swig, then started moving again, back through the living room and into a hallway. The hallway led to the stairs but also connected to the bathroom and the fireplace room that had a love seat and two big recliners position around the fireplace which -like the walls of the rest of the room- was made of stone. Behind the seating was a big bookshelf that covered the whole wall and was stuffed to the gills. We walked up the stairs, they had a gentle spiral like a widows walk. At the top was yet another hallway that connected hers and her dads room and the bathroom together. The walls were -guess what- made of stone. we entered her room, it had wooden walls and a canopy bed with a thin pink tool fabric shrouding the bed that was also adorned in pink. Pink streamers hung on the wall and were pinned up around the light fixture that I know they must have changed it from the original cause it was -go figure- pink. Cheyenne is a bit of a girly girl. I set my coke on her bedside table and flopped on the bed, she did the same.
