I wasn't surprised by the voice, but I wasn't ready for it either. I shot up quickly and just as fast as I got up I was lost in his features. His hair was shaggy and messy but not in a bad way, it fell just over his eyes so he had to run his hand through his hair to get it out of the way. His eyes were hazel and he  looked amazing in the light of the afternoon. THINK, i scolded myself. what was time? i started panicking, the sun was about to set, what i would give for a watch, i didn't want to clean toilets on the first day. I looked at him and to my surprise he looked calm, didn't he know how late it was? then I spoke like the genius I am "uh..." yup. He laughed, why on Earth did he laugh? he had some kind of plan....right? "I'm Elliot thanks for asking" he said looking at me. "oh, um I'm Sally, what's the time? don't we have to be in by six? He got up and helped me up, I was still a bit sleepy but I would be fine. "actually we have ten minutes before six" he smiled "so we better hurry, "

I nodded and walked with him in very awkward silence. When we got through the front door, which surprise surprise was the only door except for a door next to Jane's room. All eyes were on us, some glares some envy and some pity, I could feel it. "I'll see you around" I smiled like a fool. ""Um, sure diffidently "  He walked away to his side of the room and sat on his bed talking to another guy, was he talking about me? It was pointless, he was a hot guy and every girl in this place must have a crush on him, plus he has a bunch of other friends. I walked over to my bed and made it up. After that i just lay on my bed for a while thinking about mom and how we used to play and laugh and talk about boys , a tear ran down my cheek. There must have been something in my eye...

"SIX O' CLOCK!  EVERYBODY INSIDE IN A MINUTE OR ITS TOILET DUTY" Jane blasted from a megaphone. was that seriously necessary? I turned to the other side to see Brianna throw herself down on her bed. "Oh, so that's where you sleep, i was beginning to wonder." She smiled. "that bed has been empty ever since the last kid was adopted" she said with the slightest look of sadness. "well I'm hear now" was my attempt to cheer her up, and it looked like it worked, "yeah, you are" she smiled. "but what were you doing with Elliot? just asking"

"oh" I said ever so brilliant. "i sorta fell asleep outside and he woke me up so i could get back inside on time" I didn't lie, i just told a bit of the truth. "okay, just asking" She said smiling. "Because he is kinda mine" My eyebrows floated up, "kinda?", she waved off the question. "Its complicated", i nodded, This was bad. Not that i liked him in the slightest way or anything. "so what do we do until bedtime?" I wondered.
Brianna looked at me then gestured to a room left of Jane's room. "the kitchen , find and eat something before anybody else gets to it, its kinda packed with stuff so it should be easy to get something, then after that if free time until ten.

This was going to be super weird, I wanted my mom back, I don't know how to cook. I pushed the thought away, I was gonna have to learn to do things on my own now. People walked in and out of the kitchen with  determine  faces like they were all in a competition. "I'm going in" I said. "Good luck soldier" Brianna said while patting my shoulder.

Let me just say that the kitchen was horrible. The stove  desperately needed cleaning and there was spider web almost everywhere and the floor had ketchup, mustard, mayo and some other things I didn't even know what they were, And there were people everywhere, waiting to use the microwave, using all four burners on a stove cooking god knows what, about five of them pushing to see into the fridge. what was going on? I managed to find a cup noodles, simple. After what felt like a forever of waiting in the sink and microwave line, i finally got to go back to my bed with my noodles. Brianna was somehow asleep, but I wanted a little peace for a while.

After my cup noodles, I threw it away and sat back down on my bed and took out my sketchbook.
