"You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor."
Aristotle
The scream was the second loudest thing next to the long and loud slashes across the demons chest. The weapon that shined a bright blue began to dim once the demons body shriveled back down into the Earth. Now that the kill was done silence enveloped the two brothers as they stood there in the dark alley looking down then up to create eye contact with one another.
"That wasn't too hard, right Sammy?" In the darkness, the man was almost a pure silhouette with the exception of the sweat shining on his cheeks and the blood splatters that added spots of black on his face, as if imitating the gold freckles he already had across his cheeks and nose. He put his hand on my shoulder and gave me a small squeeze, "It gets better with each time."
I nod, my eyes blinking at the spot where the ugly creature disappeared in a cloud of black and orange smoke. "You act like I've never done this before, Dean. Just because you have a little bit more experience than me doesn't mean I don't know how to hunt." I tried to sound annoyed with my brother, but instead I sounded like a vessel of a man-- as if that kill wasn't enough to complete me-- or it took something away.
"Well, you've never hunted a Eidolon demon, and sadly you had to kill it when it was still in it's human form." Dean was putting his seraph blade back into his hilt located in the back of his jacket when I winced, he stared at me with a confused expression, "What's wrong?"
I shrugged and begin to put my kindjals, a pair of two long silver daggers given to me when I was young, back into my boots, "I don't know. I'm fine knowing that I just killed a demon, but when it screamed still in the shape of a human--" I shook my head, "Just took me a bit of guard, that's all. I'm okay now." I wasn't lying, I do feel better now, a sense of peace washed over me, leaving the image of the screaming girl out of my mind, I sucked in a large breath of air and huffed it out, a smile playing on my lips, "You look like you just came out of a murder scene."
Dean nodded and placed a couple fingers up to his face, smearing the ichor down his cheek. "Ah, well, we kinda did-- thankfully, our victims have their very own clean-up service."
"And our ride is a block next to us--"
"Yeah, and we're invisible." Me and him laughed and began to walk out of the small alley that the Eidolon tried to get me alone in. Our plan was for me to try to seduce the short, brunette woman and get her out of the bar. My brother, Dean, would be waiting for us outside. But the demon, or Stacey, wanted to sneak out the back and into the alleyway. My nice plaid shirt I used for the disguise was splattered with the black ichor that left a stench on me, some of the spots were already starting to burn the cotton away.
We walked in silence until we reached the clinic on the corner of the street. The clinic was well known for being practically ignored, only because no one could see it. Dean opens the door and leads us into the back of the clinic into the small janitor closet. We open to find not cleaning supplies, but a mirror with a blue tint.
I've done this too many times to count, but every time I come face-to-face with the portal I always look for my reflection, but am greeted by the memory of our home, Idris.
"Ready?" Dean said, looking into the mirror with a sense of concentration. I nod and place my hands in front of me, going first.
I always have my eyes closed as I walk through and once I open them I am welcomed by Dean and I's living room. The Winchester manor is one of the largest in Idris due to our large family, but ever since our father died no one likes to come back to the manor, leaving it all to ourselves. Dean's attitude would make you think that he couldn't keep anything nice, but the white curtains and leather couches say otherwise. The living room could be mistaken as a small apartment and that was just the beginning.
Dean came out of the portal right behind me with a loud sigh, "Man, I am hungry, what do you want to eat?"
I shrug, "Whatever is fine."
"Burgers it is, little brother."

Once we were both done eating we went our separate ways into our rooms. I threw on some casual clothes and tossed out the burnt shirt into the garbage. I threw myself onto my bed and closed my eyes. The thought of the demon reappearing into my head, the same scream ringing in my ears-- I shook my head trying to shake the memory out, but it didn't work.
As I was about to fall asleep Dean came knocking on my door, "Sam?" He threw open the door and walked in, "The Clave needs us."
"The who needs who?" I sit up quickly, we are rarely ever called to see the Clave, it usually happens because Dean gets a little reckless with other Shadowhunters when trying to impress them-- but this isn't like one of those times.
"I don't know what it is, but I'm thinking we are getting sent out into the field. So get changed, today is gonna be a good day Sammy!" He turns around and jogs out of my room, creating an echo as he yells my nickname in the hallway. I groan and get back up to get ready to face the Clave.
Once I am done getting ready, I run downstairs and meet Dean down by the front door. We both leave and slightly jog down through the large manors and shacks towards the Clave's building. When we finally get there we open the large doors and walk straight into the Inquisitor--
"Oh, we're sorry--" I began but he raised a hand and cut me off--
"Don't be, Winchester. Come this way." The Inquisitor turns around and begins to walk towards the room in the back, Dean and I look at each other and follow closely behind.
He opens the door to the back room and we are welcomed by the other Clave members, some smiling, some not. Mostly not.
"Please, come sit in front of us. We have something that we need for you two brothers to do for us." The Inquisitor sat down in front of us along with his other members and looked both Dean and I in the eyes.
Dean nodded and tried to make eye contact with all of them, trying to be polite as can be, "Whatever you need, we are the guys for you."
The Inquisitor smirked, "There is a demon horde attack in New York, my hometown, where my children are at-- I need you both to go down there to help them get rid of the hellish creatures."
I tilted my head and squinted, "A rescue mission?"
He shook his head and chuckled, "Reinforcements-- trust me, if there is any group of people that can take care of this large of a horde, it is the residents of the New York Institute-- but still, just to be safe, I need you both go to New York."
Dean laughed, "I've always wanted to go to New York." He looked at me and winked happily.
I nod, understanding what he needs us to do, "When do you want us to leave?"
He smiled, "Now."
