"Belle?! What are you doing here? How did you know I live here?!" Thomas asked, just as surprised as I was. He only had pyjama shorts on and he was hot even without a shirt on! But that wasn't important at the moment. I was in Canada!
"I... I didn't! I don't even know why I'm here!" I somehow managed through breathing heavily and trying to get my heart to beat steadily. Why the hell had they brought me to Thomas' house?!
"Is that... the Guardians?!" He asked surprised, looking behind me. WHAT?!
"You... you can see them?!" I almost squealed. How was this happening?!
"Yeah!" he said, still staring at the Guardians. I turned around to them and they all looked really surprised.
"Oh my god!" I yelled at them.
"Thomas? What's going on down there? You know I have a busy day tomorrow," I heard a voice from upstairs.
"Uh... nothing mum! Sorry! Go back to bed!" Thomas frantically called back. But it was too late. She was already walking down the stairs. Oh my god. She looked...
"Oh! Hello!" the woman said walking up to me.
"Thomas... who's this?" she asked, smiling at me. I couldn't believe it. They had done it.
"You don't recognise me?" I asked, my heart beating so fast it hurt. She hadn't changed a bit. Tears of happiness welled up in my eyes as all of the breath seemed to be sucked out of the woman standing before me.
"Belle?!" she asked surprised.
"Hi mum," I smiled as I held back tears. She just smiled and engulfed me in a hug. I was all out of tears. I had cried so much over the past couple of days that I was all out of tears when it really mattered. Right now was when I needed to cry. I was hugging my mum for goodness sakes! And I couldn't cry. Almost seven years since I had seen her and now she was holding me.
"You've grown so much!" she cried.
"Why'd you go? Why didn't you say goodbye?" I asked, my voice still shaking.
"I'm sorry," she said. I know it was all she could really say, but it wasn't enough. One sorry for leaving me, leaving Ciara, dad, making me raise my baby sister, making me go through everything without my mum there with me...
Mum pulled away from me and wiped her eyes free of tears.
"Mum... what's going on?" Thomas asked.
"Mum?!" I gasped. He just called my mum his mum! What the hell?!
"Come in. You too guys. Come on..." Mum said, gesturing to the Guardians. Wait... what? Mum believed in the Guardians? But... that contradicted everything I had ever thought about mum's beliefs. The Guardians climbed out of the sleigh and walked over. Thomas and mum went in to take a seat in the classically furnished living room. The Guardians followed. I stayed behind for a moment, waiting for Jack. When he reached me, he smiled and took my hand so we walked over to the couches together.
Once everyone was sitting down, mum and Thomas looked over to me.
"Okay... first question. How is Thomas your son?" I asked.
"When I left Burgess, I came here. For business reasons. Then I found out I had to stay here for a while. And I got lonely, so I adopted Thomas here when he was twelve," mum explained.
"Business reasons? You mean floristry?" I asked.
"Not exactly, but you'll find out about that later." I wanted to know now, but I trusted mum, so I let it go.
