"Well, we didn't meet, really. I mean we did, but, you know, we were in the same class. And I always knew everyone's names in my class. He was just a name. He used to be just a name.
"Then he came upand talked to me, and, at first, I found it really awkward to talk tohim because, well, you know me, awkward and scared of boys. He was chill. I thought he was just curious because we were never in the same class before. Till now.
"Then he told me he liked me, and I freaked. Like, this never happened in my books. Or maybe they did. Anyway, I didn't know what to do and...and I screwedit up, Jane. He liked me and he was really nice and he liked me and I messed up. I completely rejected him and now I regret it.
"And I started feeling weird around him, or I found myself thinking about him all the time. And it was just weird. I mean, what...why would Ido that? And then I realized too late that I felt the same way. And I couldn't say anything to him. I mean, he was doing fine and dandy without me, liking someone else. So...I never told him and the feeling never went away.
"And now—now we're just friends and I really wish he could go back to liking me, but the world isn't a wish-granting factory.
"But I'm okay with being his friend."
