Diapers (For _chillbreaux)

It was Sunday afternoon, the time I always did my weekly shopping at the grocery store. My list was packed with what seemed like everything in the entire store, so I slowly made my way through every isle-grabbing everything I needed. My one and a half year old son was sitting in the seat of the cart, watching me grab things off of the shelves and trying to grab things himself.

"C'mon, don't touch that." I say softly while taking a can of soup out of his hands.

I pushed the cart through every isle and crossed things off my list one-by-one. Soon enough we reached the isle where all of the baby supplies were. I grabbed some baby food first since it was on the side of the isle that I entered, and then some juice and a few new bowls and sippy cups. As I rolled the cart down the isle I saw a tall man standing; one hand on the handle of the cart, the other down by his side. He was staring at the diapers intently with a slight frown on his face. He had dark brown hair his a tint of red in it. He was wearing basketball shorts, a black t shirt and a snapback that was on backwards.

As I neared closer, I could hear him talking to the small baby sitting in the cart. He just looked up at the man with a blank stare. "C'mon little man. Which ones does your mom buy you?" He asks. When he doesn't get a response he sighs and drops his arms to his side.

"Need some help there?" I ask while grabbing the diapers I usually get. The man turns and looks at me with a hopeful expression on his face.

"Yes, please. That would be great." He smiles. "I've been in this isle for the last twenty minutes trying to get an answer out of him." We both laugh.

"He's adorable. What's his name?" I ask.

"Ford," He answers. "What about yours?"

"Tyler." I answer.

"I can see he gets his good looks from his mother." He nods his head and smirks.

I laugh, "Oh god, thanks. I'm Briana by the way." I hold my hand out.

"I'm Blake." He shakes my hand.

"So how old is he?" I ask.

"Almost two."

"Oh okay then he's about the same age as Tyler..." my eyes scan the shelf again. "The ones I just got are great and there's a good number in the box. The other brand on the shelf right there," I point upwards. "is also really great."

"Alright, I think I'll get these." He says while getting the box off of the top shelf.

"Must be nice being tall. I definitely couldn't reach that." I laugh.

He laughs, looking down at my 5'5 figure. "There are some advantages of being tall I guess. Thank you so much for the help."

"No problem." I say and turn back to my cart. Ford and Tyler were looking at each other and blabbering nonsense to each other. I look up at Blake and he looks down at me.

"They seem to be getting along." I say.

"Yeah, they do. Maybe we can get them together sometime. Maybe we could do get together sometime too." He suggests.

"That sounds great, yeah."

"Here, put your number in and I'll give you a call." He hands over his phone. I type my number into the new contact page and hand it back over.

"There you go. And if you need any help with him, don't hesitate to call." I motion toward Ford.

"Yeah, I really have no idea what I'm doing half of the time." He says nervously while his fingers through his hair.

"You're fine," I laugh, "I'll see you around."

"I'll call you!" He calls out before I turn out of the isle.

"Tyler, wait here." I say, getting off of the couch to go find my ringing phone. Nowhere to be found. After looking around a little more, I finally found it before it stopped ringing.

"Hello?" I answer.

"Bri-" The voice stops and I hear crying in the background. "Briana, hey. Sorry about that. How are you?"

"Hey Blake." I laugh. "I'm great, how are you and Ford?" I ask.

"Not that great right now actually, he's crying and I can't get him to stop." The crying keeps getting louder and louder. A dog even barks a few times. "I think he misses his mother. She's gone for the week and she's never left me with him for this long." That explains it, he's clearly not with the mother anymore.

"Oh, I see. You want me to come help? It sounds pretty bad." I giggle. "I can hear a dog barking too, you must be going crazy."

"Exactly." He chuckles, "I'll text you my address? Maybe Tyler and Ford can hang out a little too."

"Yeah, just text me it. I'll be there soon."

"See you then." He hangs up.

I got Tyler and some things before placing him in the car seat in the back of my car. The drive to Blake's house wasn't too long, surprisingly. He lived just outside of LA in a beautiful house.

"Hey!" He says, opening the door and letting me in.

"Hey! It seems like you got everything under control." I laugh, setting Tyler down next to Ford.

"Yeah on your way here everything calmed down a little. I still wanted to see you though..." He smiled.

"Hm, alright." I joke.

Tyler and Ford played together on the floor in front of us while we talked on the couch. He told me his story about Ford and hi sex girlfriend, and I told him my story of Tyler with my ex.

"We have a little in common." I say.

"Yeah definitely. Those are two crazy stories. I'm glad I can finally discuss it with someone who understand it a little." He says.

"Me too."

Once it got a little later, I decided I should leave to get Tyler home to sleep.

He laughs, "I'm glad you agreed to come by." He pulls me into a hug.

"Me too, let's do this again sometime." I suggest.

"Definitely. See you soon." We pull away from each other and I make my way over to my car, strapping Tyler into his car seat. Once I got home and put Tyler to sleep I was sitting on the couch when I got a text.

Blake: Can you do something later this week?

I smiled and responded with a yes.
