Where I'm From

I am from the map in my room
from Moscow and Honolulu
I am the crunch of fallen leaves
Colorful, crisp
It sounded like a crackling fire
I am from the merciless sea
the gentle breeze
guiding sailors on their journey

I am from mouse ears and brown eyes
from Determination and Love
and Humor
I'm from the hot-heads
and the kind-hearted
From "go with the flow"
and "always have a plan"
I'm from the house of the faithful
and freedom of the soul

I'm from the maples and the pines
chicken pot pie and biscuits and gravy
From serving in Normandy
and a shared cap and gown
Pictures above in the attic

I am from all of these things
