Now,

Kate Garcia stretched and turned on her soft bed.

She had slept like a baby and it was about   6am now so she had to get up and go to her kitchen to make breakfast, she was tired, hungry and hadn’t eaten the previous night.

But before she could get up, Bethany delivered breakfast to her on the bed. It was pasta, her favourite.

Thanks sweetie, Kate replied. You just know how to make mummy feel right in the morning.

And would you get me Joan to come over to my room right away, I need to talk to her.

  Dwayne’s POV

My phone rang again but this time it was my dad. I stood up again and went towards my table to pick up my phone.

“HELLO dad! I said hurriedly” I had missed him and was happy about hearing his voice again and happy someone familiar was calling me unlike the previous time when I had to talk to one who was threatening me.

At the other end was some terrible silence. My dad had called me but when he said hello, I didn’t answer him so I dropped the call this time and called back.

The phone rang again and I was expectant once again but as the phone was answered at the other end, someone else picked the call. Someone familiar…Matt Derriman was the man on the other side.

“I just wanted you to listen to the shots as I put them through your father chest, I have him with me right now because he got around digging dirt that he wasn’t supposed to dig and for that he’s gonna pay “

I was shocked and shattered! How could my dad have been embroiled into all of this.

I tried to beg  but the next thing I heard was six shots and utter silence then he spoke to me again before I could say anything, saying “ the death of your father has nothing to do with the impending death of your mother if you don’t hand over the girl by  the next two hours. It’ll be a pity if your mum doesn’t have lunch because of you today. Don’t you think?.  Your father just stuck his hands on our piece and got R.I.P written all over him now and if you don’t want the same tag on your mum by 11:00am, you would do the wise boy!”

He dropped and the line went dark after then and said disconnected when I tried to call back. It was all over now.

I NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO HEAR MY FATHER’S VOICE AGAIN.

I sat down on the carpet in my room and could not even think. Thoughts were far away from me because “Someone had just called me and killed my father in my hearing”.

My phone rang again and the caller was unknown this time. It was 8:00am now and  I didn’t have time to think about what calamity just befell me but I had a plan checked to deal with that so I picked the call .

“Hello! Who is this?”

I said that brisk and curt. The voice that answered me was a woman’s voice.

“hello” she said with a very thin and beautiful voice that sounded a bit like Joan’s

Who do you want to speak to? I asked this time, more politely seeing it was a woman talking. I didn’t like talking harsh to women no matter how I felt, my dad had taught me that but he died some few minutes ago.

“ Dwayne  Krin”.

I want to speak to Dwayne Krin urgently. There is something going on here in Omaha. Your mum was just admitted to a hospital nearby after she was found lying unconscious on her bed.

We fear she has been injected with some kind of virus and the doctor said that she had only two hours to live. The reason we’re calling you is that the men that brought her to the hospital who claimed to be your uncles with valid ID’s that checked out said we should let you know, and that you would know what to do to get her well. If you do know what to do Mr. Krin, you have two hours to do it or else there’s nothing else we can do to help your mother.

I’m a nurse at  the Alpha medical centre  close  to your house, please hurry up to get what you know can help her get out of this state, I wouldn’t want my mum looking like this.

And she dropped the call.

She was like the third person that had dropped bad news on me today, from Joan to Derriman and now he’s trying to make sure I give him Joan by putting my mum on a time bomb.

I couldn’t do anything else, my mum is the last person I’ve got now and I have to give the man what he wants before he ends my family.

My phone rang again and it was Derriman using his number, the first number he used to call me.

“I just wanted to confirm that you got my message boy. I have the antidote to the virus we injected in your mother this morning and it will be useless after two hours, that’s how long it lasts.

The choice is yours, to save who matters most to you!”
