JOAN'S POV
I walked into the cafetaria and got my lunch, then holding my tray of tripleberry cheese cake and strawberry smoothy, I started to my usual table; with my cheerleading team. I stopped when I got to it and dropped my tray on the table and was about to take my sit when a familiar voice stopped me. It was Kaithlin. I had never really liked her but she was Maurice's friend do there was no way I would not hang out with her.
"What now?" I asked with exasperaton probably written all over my face. I was going through enough in my life and this girl was just worsening my bad mood.
"Well, we, the cheerleaders have made a decision." She replied looking all so annoying and totally proud of herself for talikg on behalf of the team. I had achieved much more than that so i wondered how dumb she was to think that stupid look she had on her face would in anyway intimidate me.
"And what does that have to do with me?" I asked.
"Well, since lately, you've been slacking in yout duty as our captain, we have decided to let someone more capable, and friendly lead us."
Just great, they were ridding me of my post! I could almost smash their faces with my cake.
"And since you cancelled your party, that didn't help either." Kaithlin continued.
Okay, seriously, what correlation did my party have with the cheerleadind squad??? Was i too much of a genius or were these people just being dimwits?
Kaithlin folded her arms but i said nothing, if i had to let go of all that was swelling up inside of me at the moment, the result would probably be horrific. "We've all chosen a new captain."
I looked at their faces, who on earth could these dummies have chosen? Kaithlin?
"Maurice." I almost tripped. My best friend??? Let me rephrase that; My former best friend/betrayer/backstabber???
I stared at her. She couldn't even look me in the eye but i could tell from her face that she had not opposed any of the decisions these dummies had made. She looked like she loved it. Really, I couldn't even trust anyone in my life. Not her, not my murderer of a father and definitely not my EVIL grandmother!!! No one, I just wanted to burst into tears but my ego definitely hindered me from doing that. I felt almost worthless, useless. The only reason my uncle came to my bed everynight was 'cause i was his 'cash cow'; that was how he had put it yesterday evening and the only reason my so called friends hung out with me was 'cause of my parties. What sort of human beings surrounded me??? I took my tray, head held high, and walked off back to cafeteria counter and dropped it. My appetite had somehow vanished and i wasn't hungry anymore. Well, so since i could neither have a nap nor go detective anymore, i settled for study. I went to my lucker, got my Chemistry textbook and headed for the Chemistry Labratory.
I opened the door and got in. Mrs Phelps, Our chemistry teacher was sitted at the corner of the Laboratory and had just looked up from whatever it was she had been doing. She appeared a litlle surprised. Well it's sort of a rarity for me to go to the Chemistry lab. Sometimes, though, i wonder how i manage to be top of the class. I'm just a little great genius.
"Joan, I didn't think i'd ever have the privilege of seeing you here except during my classes." She said . Normally, i'd probably have said something touché but considering my present situation and mood, i simply greeted her and headed to my table. Not like it was really mine but i always used that table alone. I had sort of made sure i was not appointed with a lab partner. It'd have been infuriating since i was the least bit tactful, in other words, i was a bit impatient with dunces.
I had almost gotten to it when i noticed i was not the only serious student who had found time to sacrifice lunch for studies.
"Joan Briggs, nice of you to do some real studying." Meet Dwayne Krin, my opponent. I disliked him, he disliked me and we kind of competed for the top position of the class. He wasn't really a nerd but he was kind of weird though. I knew nothing about him, i don't think anyone did. He really did freak me out and i was really glad Mrs Phelps was in the Lab. as well. Besides, what did he mean by 'real studying'?
