Malachai roamed the hallways of his house, mud covering his shoes. The white converse were anything but white. He whistled softly as he trailed mud into the house. Kai dragged his shovel across the floorboards, humming a soft tune. Footprints were left behind him, matching the same pattern on the bottom of his shoes. He didn't seem to care about the mess.
The old radio on the counter was playing some old rock song that Kai seemed to like. He mumbled the lyrics as he walked, nearing the end of the hallway. The kitchen was visible, as was the source of the music.
Kai hummed one last tune before sighing contently. Glancing down at the dirtied shovel, he bit his lip. His gaze traveled to his feet, then finally he looked behind him. Large muddy footprints stretched from the front door to where he stood. Malachai smirked, hearing another set of footprints in the kitchen.
"What the hell?" A feminine voice rang out, only making Kai's smile grow bigger.
"I planted the damn flowers," Kai grinned. His eyes ran up and down the girl's body. Her long hair was quite messy and stopped half way down her back. Kai's blue eyes matched hers, accept hers held more exhaustion. She wore checkered boxers and a soft, black pajama shirt.
"What about the dirt?" She pointed out, standing before him.
"I don't know about you, but I think it adds a little bit of color to the hallway." Kai said smugly, throwing his head back to look at the footprints once again. Malachai snapped his fingers, and suddenly brought her towards him. He wrapped his arms around her, his hands resting on her waist.
"What did I say about magic in the house?" She asked, holding back laughter.
"What did I say about magic in the house?" Kai mocked, making her sound rude and extra girly.
"I do not sound like that."
Kai dismissed her comment, pulling her even closer to kiss her forehead. "I love you, Simone."
"And I love you," Simone smirked, "but that doesn't mean you get out of cleaning up the dirt."
Malachai sighed over dramatically. Finally, he let her go. She turned to unplug the radio. Kai quickly smacked her butt, cheekily grinning.
Simone glared at him before turning off the radio. Once Kai was out of sight, she couldn't help but smile. She smiled because she was happy. Her happiness wasn't fake, and she wasn't planning on escaping or going back home. Because she was home.
From the moment Kai dragged her out of the courthouse, she knew where she belonged. With him. And that decision is what took them across the border. Simone abandoned Nick, her Dad, Ethan, and everyone else in that town. She didn't think twice about getting into Kai's stolen!car and leaving town.
They had immediately settled into a small cabin in Quebec, Canada. The home was surrounded by trees on all sides. It was located thirty miles away from any town, and the surrounding twenty miles were covered in vasts forests.
It's been one year since Kai supposedly died. When Simone had asked him about it, he went on about a certain spell that made it so no one could see him. He claimed he'd used it many times before back in Virginia. Simone then asked him if he was around to see the burial, or her grief. Turns out he had been watching her the entire time.
