The sun had risen hours ago and I had found myself walking behind my mother, helping her with errands. My eyes rolled as I held tightly to the basket of fruits and vegetables she had bought out of the pocket money we had saved up. I always tried to avoid going to the markets with her. Because I was always the one that ended up carrying everything.
"Figlia! (Daughter!)" My head turned as mother came back and put more food into the basket. "I had found these across the street on sale!" She beamed as I let out a deep exhale.
"Are we almost done here mother? Si? (yes?)" She hummed before looking around further.
"Not quite. There is bound to be more treasures the further we travel. Come." She pulled me eagerly. "Tino!" Mother called before I heard the familiar light padding of feet behind me.
"I'm am here madre (mother)!" Turning my gaze, I saw my younger brother come to her side as she patted his head in appreciation.
"Let's continue." He nodded and the three of us made our way further up the busy streets.
"Psst. Idiota! (idiot!)" I whispered as Tino turned before joining my side.
"I am no idiot." He pouted as I chuckled and stopped us both.
"I have other important errands to run today so I do not have all day to dawdle. Carry this?" I gestured as he hesitantly held his arms out. "Grazie fratellino (Thank you little brother)." I ruffled his hair and stretched my arms out.
"And what important errands are you running huh?" He huffed, realizing just how heavy the basket was. "Would they involve a certain, Ezio?" I could only punch his shoulder as he laughed while stabilizing the food.
"Do not drop anything or else mother will have your head!" I yelled making my way away from him.
"Saro sicuro di esso! (I'll be sure of it!)" He called as I turned and disappeared through the crowds. Coming to a stop beside a building and leaning on it to catch my breath, giggles caught my ear as I perked up a bit.
"You are so cute!" Looking over, I followed the irritating sound only to find myself eye rolling.
Of course it was him.
"Ladies, ladies. As much as I would like to stay, I have to be somewhere." My stupid friend had slowly pulled himself away from three prostitutes who begged him to stay. My eye twitched as I growled and pushed away to follow the insolent boy.
After detaching himself from those needy women, he strolled through the busy streets and towards the direction of my home. It's about time.
But an idea suddenly flickered in my mind and I smirked before disappearing into the crowd and escaping into an alleyway. This'll teach Ezio for being late.
Travelling from one alleyway to another, I soon found myself ahead of my friend and waited quietly in the dark. It wasn't long until he was close by. The plan will start just as soon as I can reach him.
He then absentmindedly walked blindly across the alley causing me to hide a chuckle and snatch him from plain sight. Though knowing Ezio, he wouldn't go down without a fight.
"Give me all of your belongings on you bambino debol. (weak child)." I hissed causing Ezio to suddenly bring up his fists and throw an attempted punch at me.
"Not without my life scoundrel!" He yelled turning to face me before freezing in his spot. "Ersilia?" I stepped back and leant my shoulder against the building and laughed at him.
"So gullible." Ezio sighed and relaxed before walking towards me.
"You gave me a fright amico mio (my friend)." I shrugged and pushed off the wall before brushing past him. "Ersilia?" He asked as I continued to ignore him and made my way out into the street. A hand caught my wrist though and restricted me from walking any further. We both stood in silence; the chatter of the town being the only noise. Until I broke our silence.
"So I heard you didn't return home." I chucked a glance at Ezio who physically paled before letting go of me and rubbing the back of his neck.
"I-I hadn't seen Cristina in so long and I-" my hand reach up and covered his mouth as a smile cracked onto my features.
"I see I made a lucky guess." His eyebrows narrowed as I laughed and took my hand away. "Where were you heading off to this morning?" Ezio blinked back before regaining himself with a smile.
"To your home actually. I said I would meet you in the morning did I not?'
"Oh poor Ezio. It has bypassed morning a while ago." Rubbing his shoulder, he then took my arm and laced it through his before pulling us out into the open streets.
"Madre (mother) will probably be worried of my whereabouts. So we must go see her now." I sighed and pulled us forward as we walked with ease through the streets.
Up ahead, a small handful of guards came pacing through, eyes avert and looking around cautiously.
"Wait." Ezio said before pulling me over to a bench close by. He sat us down and kept his face towards the dirt ground as the guards passed us. "Are they gone?"
"Ezio-"
"Are they gone Ersilia?" He cut me off narrowing his eyes as I slowly nodded.
"Yes, they're gone." Ezio sighed in relief before leaning back on his seat. "Care to tell me what that was about?" Our gazes met, mine intently burning into his so he would spill out the reason he was avoiding the guards.
"Uh, well... Cristina's father-"
"Caught you didn't he? And then he called upon the guards who are still in search for you. Right?" Ezio could only nod as I sighed and stood up before looking up towards the roofs. "Well... there's only option then." My stare harden before I looked back down at Ezio who looked guiltier than anything. "We take to the roofs."
