"Why are you staring at him like that."

I jumped in my seat looking at Austin who was now staring at me curiously, and here I thought my staring was subtle, "Apparently I know his brother," Well not apparently I did, "But he looks nothing like it."

"Aha sureee," he stressed out and I gave him a look, "No I'm serious that's why I'm staring."

"Whatever you say, if you want me to hook you guys up you just have to ask."

I slapped Austin's shoulder as he started laughing, "Stop being a dick."

"I can't help it I was born with one." I rolled my eyes at his rotten jokes, right, so funny Austin, can you see me rolling on the ground laughing?

I stretched my legs out taking my drink from the ground watching the game, which was boring me, and sighed, was it home time yet.

* * *

"This is an afterparty?" I frowned.

Apparently there was an afterparty after the game, at first I thought why would there be one for little kids playing, but no, it was for the game after this, when the under twenty one's played.

It also reminded me how old I was compared to the rest of the young adults and teenagers. Great. I felt like a grandmother here.

"Why are you such a party pooper, come on, get drunk and enjoy life," Austin shoved a beer in my hand and I wrinkled my nose at it as he disappeared into the crowd of the house. The can felt warm in my hands and I looked around for a bin, I had zero intention of drinking it.

I walked around, there were more people than I first anticipated, it didn't seem like much fun with everyone just leaning against walls or tables or wherever and talking, the music was soft and there was a bunch of food which was great.

I walked outside into the backyard where there were lights around the pool, there were less people outside because it was so cold, so I decided to stay around here, I didn't really want to mingle.

I walked over to the grass and turned the can upside down watching as the coloured liquid watered the plants.

"Is that your hobby? Killing plants?"

I jumped spinning around and swearing when the beer went my shoes and toes instead. I quickly uprighted the can looking up at a smiling Preston, "Oh, hi." I said somewhat relieved it was someone I knew.

"What are you doing here?" I asked surprised.

Preston looked around, "I live down the road tree killer."

"Oh, and you just came, like gatecrashed?"

Preston laughed, "No, I know Brian."

I frowned, "Who's Brian?"

"I think you're the one who gatecrashed, he's the guy who owns this house."

I rubbed my wrist rocking back on my heels, "Oh, right well I sort of did, I came with my cousin and his friend." I couldn't help buy eyeing his woolen jumper, gosh that looked so warm. Why didn't I wear my jumper, dad always told me to bring a jumper and a jacket just to be safe, I should have listened to him.

Damn it I was freezing. But at the same time the cold air was nice against my face, almost refreshing.

"So what are you doing out here all alone, the real party is inside."

"I'm not much of a partier." what a big lie, one of these days my lie count was going to be so high I was going to be sent straight to hell. Or was I already half way there.

I walked around the pool with Preston walking beside me as he talked about some business trip he had, which sounded pretty fun. Why didn't dad ask me to come with him on the trip? I frowned, I wanted to go to the trip, I wanted to learn.

"So what are you doing tomorrow?" he asked randomly and I paused, "Uh." What was I doing tomorrow, oh right.

"Going to the zoo."

"Alone?"

"No with my friends," or more Tristan and his girlfriend, he mentioned he was taking her to the zoo and I shamelessly invited myself along because I haven't been to the zoo in so long. I wasn't going to annoy them, I would just go my own way and meet up after to get a ride back.

"Oh which one?"

"Melbourne zoo,"

"I haven't been to the zoo in ages."

"Same," I nodded as I started walking inside to find Austin, was it time to go home yet. I hope he hasn't gotten into any trouble, or started drinking too much because he had to drive home.

"Let me know if it's good I'll have to visit it."

"Sure thing." I nodded.

"I remember the last time I went was when I was ten." I paused, and looked at him, "Do you uh, want to come?" I asked, now I felt obligatory to invite him because he talking about it. His eyes brightened and I took it as a yes.

"Only if I'm not intruding."

I shrugged, I was the bigger intruder gatecrashing a date, "Nah it's fine. I'll text you when we leave home." I said as I finally spotted Austin and frowned, what the hell was he doing.

"Sounds like a date! See you then, oh I mean like a date as in a plan not as a in a da-,"

"Mhm okay," I nodded as I walked over to Austin tapping on his shoulder as he turned around, "what are you doing?"

"Did you just see a girl with short black hair?"

"What, theres a few girls here with that description."

"No, this ones super hot." I rolled my eyes and tugged his arm, "Come on Austin, it's nearly two in the morning, mum's going to kill me." I could just imagine her already worrying and stressing, or maybe her and Aunt Rose are too into the horror movies or passed out from being too scared.

"Hmm, okay I'll see her around another day."

I stared at him curious of the interest he was showing, "Who is she?"

Austin rubbed his chin frowning, "I don't really know, yet." he smiled and I raised an eyebrow seeing a look I never thought I would see on my cousin.
