"what the hell are the cops doing here? " I whisper-yell at him. Why the heck are the cops at my house, in the middle of the night?

"just tell them you don't know anything. " he says leaning against the wall.

"do I know anything? " I ask him.

"no you don't. Just open the door before they break it. " he says casually.

"what!" I quickly open the door and try to act normal which is quite hard in my current situation. It's not usual that I have cops coming for a visit in the middle of the night. As soon as my skin comes in contact with the cold midnight air, goosebumps prickle up making me shudder.

"officer? " I looked at the cop. He looked like he was in his late thirties, a tall man with a mustache which gave him an elderly look.

"hello ma'am. I'm officer Reynold. You must be Lynette Sawyer if I'm not wrong." the cop says and my heart continues to pound against my chest.

"yes I am. Is something wrong officer? "

" I'm officer . sorry to disturb you in the middle of the night but we have some questions for you. This will take only a minute." Officer Reynold says trying to be polite but really there's no hint of emotion in his voice.

"o-okay..." I didn't dare open the door wider. Something tells me this is related to Haig.

"do you happen to know Haig Chesterfield?" Bingo!

"um.. Yea. I mean he lives next-door"

" do you know him personally? " he asks me. I've never really known Haig that much until he crashed into my house the other day. Yes, I used to have a crush on him like two years ago but never really attempted to talk to him. He was the bad boy who always gets into trouble and the last thing I wanted was to get involved. And now look at me. I'm practically letting him stay in my house. Not to mention when I'm alone.

So I say "no, not really. What's wrong officer?"

"there has been a murder and we have witnesses that say they've seen him getting into a fight with the person. And we suspect that he's the one involved in this murder. But you don't need to worry.. we'll track him down soon enough. Please inform us if you see him anywhere. Thanks for your time ma'am. " the man nods .  The cold breeze hits me making all the minute hair on my arm rise.

"y-yea sure..." I say, hardly hearing myself say it. I watched as the cops took off. Gulping I realize that my throat has gone dry. I was frozen.

Murder?

Haig Chesterfield is a murderer? I find it hard to digest the fact. I'm keeping a murderer in my house?

"are you gonna close the door now... It's getting cold " I hear him say and my blood starts to boil. He sure has got the nerve to speak to me after knowing that I have found out his truth! I close the door and lock it behind me. I turn and walk right past him, pushing him off the way– not that he even budges the slightest bit– and grab his things from the living room, the small duffle bag and his phone which I drop it in the bag. As he enters the living room I walk towards him dumping the bag against his chest as hard as I could which caught him off guard.
“what are you doing? ” he questions.
“you lied to me! You are a murderer Haig! do you really think I'll keep you here after finding out what you did?! I can't believe I actually trusted you to let you stay here. How could you do it? How could you actually take away someone's life!” I lose it completely. His face shows zero regret. More over it carries no expression at all. “I should have turned you in.....” I feel my eyes become moist and It's not because I was scared but it's because I was agitated. Someone has lost their life and the only one to blame is Haig.  And the worst part is that I see no emotion in his eyes.... No regret, no sorrow, no guilt, no fear. He was stone cold,  standing in front of me and staring at me like he still has no idea  what he did.
