"Oh come on honey," my mom sighed, giving me a cheerful smile. "It'll be fun!" She reassures. I give her a glare as I sling my backpack over my shoulders.

"For the whole summer." I say blankly. "You're making me go to grandmas, for the whole summer." I say with anger in my voice.

My parents were sending me off to my grandmothers for the summer in Washington, while they tour Europe.

Europe!

As much as I dislike spending time with my parents, I wouldn't mind going to Europe. I mean I'm an only child. They're suppose to take me on trips like this!

"May I remind you that you're sending me to grandmas for the whole summer." I say following my mom out to the car as she puts her last suite case in the trunk. "Why can't I stay home?" I ask.

"Because it'll be nice for you to spend time with your grandmother." My dad cuts in. "She's been lonely ever since gramps passed Mel." He reminded me as he shut the trunk.

My grandfather died from cancer two years ago, and my grandmothers been living alone ever since.

"But still...." I say quietly, looking down. I open the car door and slide in, a sigh escaping my mouth.

***

The drive to the house wasn't too long I guess. It's located in a small town called Pinewood, just West of Seattle.

We pulled into the gravel driveway, the house hasn't changed a bit since I last came here.

I opened the door and stepped out. I followed my mother to the door, where we were greeted by my grandmother.

"Mom." My mother smile happily as she gave my grandma a hug.

"Good to see you Claire," she smiled before turning to me. "Ooh and Melanie." She gives me a wide smile before hugging me.

"Grandma!" I smile, wrapping my arms right around her. Her familiar scent of candles and snicker doodles filled my nose. "How are you? I've missed you." I smiled.

"Oh I've been alright," she smiled. "I'm just glad you're here." She adds giving me another smile.

"Oh and Daniel!" She says as my dads sets down my duffle bag, and gives grandma a hug.

"Sue." He smiles as he gives her a hug. "How are you?" He asks.

"I'm alright thanks," she nods. "I was just saying how happy I was that Melanie could come stay with me." She adds wrapping her arm around my shoulder.

"Yeah, you two will have fun." He says resting his hand on my shoulder. I give a fake smile up at me dad.

Right...

"Well we better get going," my mom says. "Don't wanna miss our flight." She says, giving her mother a hug.

"Alright then, you two have fun." Grandma says as I give my last goodbyes to my parents. We wave as my parents car groves away.

Now I'm officially stuck here.

"I've got your room set up and cleaned for you." My grandmother says as she leads me to my room. It's located on the second floor, the 3rd door to the left. I open the door, and it's not to bad.

The floors wooded, with walls that are white, with a window seat that outlooks the lake, the bed is a king sized bed with a white comforter and grey and black throw pillows. There's a desk in the corner of the rooms and a big mirror in the other, and there's a white dresser with a TV across the bed.

"The last time I was here a couple years ago, I remember the walls being a mustard yellow." I say with a jokingly tone to my voice as I set down my bags.

"Well I have nothing else to do, and I figured why not make it suit you and your likings." She replies, I smile at her.

"You didn't have to do that." I say.

"Well I could always paint it back to the mustard yellow," she smirks. "If you'd like." She adds and I laugh.

"No thank you." I say, and we both laugh.

"Well you get situated and I'll go make us a snack." She says and I smile.

I neatly fold all of my clothes and placed them into the dresser. Afterwards I decided to walk outside, I made my way down the stairs and out the door.

I walked to the backyard, the feeling of the freshly mowed grass on my feet made me smile. The breeze was calm, the waves on the lake were calming, and the sound of birds chirping was peaceful.

I don't think anything could ruin this moment.

But then I heard a familiar voice, and  that thought changed.

Short first chapter I promise it'll get better soon.
