"Doctor Harrison Wells has officially powered on the particle accelerator, and so far, it is functioning correctly," said the reporter on the television, "It is believed that this particle accelerator could be the key to a new future and advancement in physics." A smile danced across the reporter's lips as she turned to interview some of the people there at the event. Waverly Kidd sat on his couch in his apartment, watching his television screen with interest. This was supposed to be the biggest event of the year – how could he ever miss this? He nibbled on his bottom lip as he watched, waiting for any update on how the machine was doing.

Suddenly, there was a loud boom, and people looked confused, and worried. The reporter turned back to the camera, "The particle accelerator is malfunctioning, and Star Labs is working to shut it down." She looked down, pressing two fingers against her ear-piece, "Uh-huh.. Really?" Her tone was without hope. She turned to the screen, opening her mouth to say something but was cut off by an explosion. The camera shut off instantly, and Waverly scrambled off of the couch, looking out of his window in the direction of the explosion. He could hear it from his own apartment, and watched as the explosion widened, catching the entire city in its radius.

When the radius widened to reach Waverly's building, the whole entire building blacked out and he felt different immediately. He groaned, nausea rising in him as he felt as if his stomach were flipping around. There was something off about the way he felt, and it caused him to fall. The sounds of his heavy breathing and groans were forever lost in the darkness that enveloped him. He couldn't see anything – he didn't even know where he had fallen. His only source of light was the moonlight that glided into his living room through the window.  He was unsure of when he blacked out, but he did know that it took the feeling away from him.

Sunlight rested on Waverly's eyelids, which coaxed him awake. His eyes fluttered open, and a small groan escaped his mouth. As he pushed himself off of the floor, memories of the previous night has surfaced and flashed through his mind. The particle accelerator..exploded? A questioning thought bounced around his mind as he glanced out of the living room's window. The city appeared to be normal, but he had a feeling that things weren't going to return the same way. When he'd taken a step, his balance was thrown off and his body made another trip to the floor.

It took him a few tries to get back onto his feet and stabilize himself. Waverly took the remote control to the television and turned it on; news reports about the particle accelerator were almost everywhere. He actually pitied Star Labs; they were an admirable organization, and did great things, but he knew it would be difficult to get back to that status after the failure of the particle accelerator. He turned the volume up as they began naming people who were either dead or injured. "—Joseph Woods, Octavia Cook, Barry Allen––" Upon hearing the last name, his eyes widened. Barry Allen? The reporter on the television gave details about the conditions of the victims, "Mr. Woods, unfortunately, was killed during the explosion. Ms. Cook currently suffers from amnesia, and Mr. Allen is in a comatose state." Relief flooded through him; at least Barry wasn't dead.

Waverly turned the television off, leaning against the wall. He sighed for a moment, retreating to his mind to relive the moments of the previous night. A machine that seemed so destined for greatness wasn't as great as people thought it was.. Suddenly, it had came to mind that it was Friday, and he had work. He dug around in his pocket, and turned on his phone, and the time read seven-twenty-three. "I need to hurry," He jogged over to the bathroom to shower and change. After he was all done, he glanced at himself in the mirror. "A veterinarian. Who would've thought?" He chuckled.

In about twenty minutes, Waverly was out of his apartment and running down the stairs. He wasn't normally a tardy person, and wanted to keep that record. He got in his car, turned it on, and drove. There wasn't too much traffic that morning, much to his appreciation. He arrived at a veterinarian clinic, and almost fell out of his car trying to get out. He stumbled through the doors of the clinic, "I'm here!" The place looked deserted, and the only person who was in the clinic besides him was his boss, Ms. Day. "Waverly?" Ms. Day glanced at her employee, "Why did you come today?"
