Chattering filled the hallways as students progress down the hallways, moving on to their next classes. I, on the other hand, was on my free period, and I was headed towards the library, where I would be meeting my best friend. I pushed my ways through the crowds of students who had -obnoxiously- stopped in the middle of the already narrow corridors, making my way to the stairs, joining a wave of students who had a free period with me, heading to the same room as me.

Weaving around the groups of friends, I walk into the library, which was colder than normal, what was up with my school using the air conditioner? I shiver as goosebumps form on my already covered arms. Slowing scanning the rows in the room, I stop as I see my best friend, Esther, scanning a section of older books.

"What are you looking for?" I say from behind her, she jumps a little, before realising its me. "Mansfield Park. Mr. Dickson said I should check it out, he said he'd give me extra credit if I do." She brushes off the fright I had given her, before pulling out a dusty looking paperback, scanning the pages to see if it's readable. "I'm gonna go check out some other stuff, I'm out of reading material." I tell her as I back away, only receiving a nod from her in response. Spinning around, I come face to face- or well- face to chest with a taller figure. I back up, looking down, muttering a sorry, before walking around the figure and into the next isle.

"You should look where you're going," a voice speaks behind me, which is quite familiar, they must have followed me after I walked away. "I apologised, Jack." I mumble, not bothering to look at him.

I see his figure lean against the shelf next to me, as I continue to look through the books, occasionally pulling one out to read the back. No words are shared between the two of us for several minutes, him just watching me look as I tried to move away slowly.

"Isn't there something more important than looking through books?" He mutters, looking around, I roll my eyes, why would he follow me if he knew I was just gonna look for something to read? "Like?" I say, slight annoyance laced in my voice as I pull out a book and open to the first page.

"I don't know, talk to your friends? Talk to me?" He says, I look up at him with my eyebrows pulled together. "And why would I want to talk to you? I thought I made it pretty obvious that I don't want to." I put my head back in my book as if pointing out I wanted him to leave me alone. Which he obviously ignored, "you know, you're pretty rude, I'm just trying to be nice." He says, he sounds annoyed now, like I'm rude, I don't have to talk to him, no matter how nice he wants to be, or act.

"And why are you acting nice? What would you possibly want that could make you go out of your way to talk to me twice?"

"What, do I need to have a reason? I thought you were good looking and I thought I'd talk to you." He scoffs, before staying quiet, "What about your friend? The blonde one? She's hot. Is she single?" He raises an eyebrow, looking at me.

I scoff this time, "I am not setting you up with my best friend, never."

"Why not?" He seems offended, what would he expect? To just have me just be fine with it? Esther was just like me, we were best friends for a reason, she was the same as me. She had been crushing on Jack Johnson, who seemed to be one of Jacks friends.

"Cause your not her type, she's not really into knuckleheads who have to talk to their best friend to hit on them." I state the obvious, before rolling my eyes. I decide on the book in my hand, before wandering over to the counter, Jack hot on my trail as I walk. "Who said I was talking to you to get to her? I was talking to you, about you, but you're obviously not interested in talking to me." He states as I hand the book over to the librarian, who scans it before handing it back.

"I'm a single guy, I can talk to all the girls I want, it doesn't make me a 'knucklehead.'" He chuckles at himself as if he said something smart.

"Whatever you say." I mumble before heading over to Esther who was sitting at a table waiting for me, this time he doesn't follow me.

"Jack Gilinsky?" She raises her eyebrows, as I shrug my shoulders, "he's an idiot." I roll my eyes. "Yeah," she nods her head in agreement, "but he's Jack Johnson's best friend, so ." She shrugs he shoulders nonchalantly, she had always had a soft spot for Jack Johnson, they were friends when they were little, but drifted as they got older, she had recently decided that, even as a kid, the soft spot she had for him wasn't a friendly one, but more of an infatuation.

"Of course you would know that." I roll my eyes as I press my lips into a smile.

"Who doesn't? Jack Johnson is one of the most popular guys in school, which is why I have zero chance with him." She sighs sadly.

"Eh, who cares, if you got no chance, then he'd be missing out, and if he's that dumb then you don't even need to be wasting your time."

"Yeah." She agrees, her voice soft as she speaks. I wish I could say that Esther was like me when it came to boys, but if she was she would be exactly like me.

She had always had some sort of dependance on the people around her, whether it were me, or our other friends, or the boy she was currently crushing on.

"He just so nice Luna, we were talking the other day. I don't know, it reminded me of old times, I just really really like him." She sighs gazing off at the other groups of people sitting in the library.

"Talking about me again?" A deep, familiar voice chuckle from behind me, she looks up at the person and rolls her eyes, smiling. "You wish I was, Sammy." She laughs as the chair's pulled out next to me, a platinum haired boy sits down next to me, to be more precise, Sammy, one of my closest friends, as Nate walks around from behind me and sits next to Esther.

"What took you two so long?" I lean my chin into my hands and raise my eyebrows, locking eye contact with Nate.

"Got caught smoking on school ground," he shrugs nonchalantly, I roll my eyes while smiling at them.

"Druggies." Esther mumbles, she didn't like that the two smoked, hell, I didn't either, but she didn't accept it like I did. She hates it with a passion, but we had all been friends for years, she won't dare drop them over it.

"Suck it up princess." Sammy laughed, nudging her side, making her roll her eyes. "Can't you guys do it out of school? You know where you don't get in trouble, and we don't have to hear about it?" She grumbles, opening the book she had set in front of her.

"Sorry baby g, cravings are a bitch." Nate shrugs, pulling out his phone as he receives a text message. Sammy stands up, walking over to a table of girl, all giggling and waving at him, whilst Esther's head is shoved into her book. I look up from the other, sighing as my eyes scanning across the room.

A scowl forms on my face as I spot Jack, chatting up another girl like he was moments before to me, only this girl thought he was genuinely interested in what she was saying, they exchange phones, obviously swapping numbers, before he smiles at her and walks of. As he walks in the direction of the door, he catches my eye, and sends a wink my way, whilst I just squint my eyes into a glare. What an idiot.
