A fresh start

This is it, today I was going to finally go to High School. I got out of bed and went to brush my teeth when I noticed just how messy my hair looked this morning. It was hard taming those long waves, they would go everywhere no matter what you did to them so I just put them up most of the time.

I walked out of my bathroom door and headed for the big but hidden door of my walk-in wardrobe. I know some people like to show off everything they own, but I was never the one to show off the stuff my adoptive parents have bought me.

Yes I am adopted. Isn't it obvious? I am more closed in than most kids, it's hard to start friendships with people especially if you only just moved out of your orphanage in England and have only just moved into your new penthouse in California.

I moved my posters that were covering my wardrobe and opened the doors. Most of the clothes in there were brand new that my adoptive parents bought me. And to be completely honest I only liked a few thing in there. I have never been into fashion, which may seem weird seeing as I'm a 17 year old that lived in the centre on London for 4 years, but I have always been the simple girl, never been in love so I never really had anyone to dress up for.

I walked to the far end of my wardrobe where I found black skinny jeans and plain white top. Then after about 5 minutes of looking for where my shoes are I found a pair of simple brown flip flops.

After I put all of my clothes on I went downstairs where I saw my adoptive mum Maddie and my step brother Harry. Harry was 9 and he kind of reminded me of a kid from the orphanage that I was in, but Harry came from an orphanage in Sweden but was born English. He has been living with Maddie and John for the last two years and was always excited for an older sister.

Maddie, my step mum, has got to be the prettiest lady I have seen in a long time. She was in her mid thirties and had the prettiest blond hair that went just a little past her shoulders, she was also just a bit shorter than me this way we kind of looked more like best friends than actually adoptive mother and her adopted daughter. She was diagnosed with an illness three years ago which meant that she could never have kids, so she started adopting, first Harry then me.

'Good morning sweety! How was sleep?' Maddie seemed extremely happy this morning.

'Good morning! Yeah it was great.' I went to reach for the apple on the huge island in the middle of the kitchen.

'Got a big day today huh?' Her voice was so soothing.

'Yeah, although I'm kind of nervous' I admitted.

'Why? They're going to accept you just the way you are.'

'Yeah I guess you're right. It's just I only just moved here and everything just seems so weird.'

'You'll be fine.'I guess she was right I had nothing to worry about. 'Come on I will drive you to school.'

On the drive there me and Maddie discussed everything academic and she told me a little bit about the school. It turns out this school is the best school in California and that she had to work very hard to make sure I get in the school. I don't know why, but that made me even more nervous. If I mess things up in this school Maddie will definitely be upset with me and the last thing I wanted was for my adoptive mum to get upset with me.

After a short 10 minute drive Maddie pulled up outside a huge building with a bunch of teenagers walking into it or just chilling outside in the sun. 'Okay so this is it.' I turned to Maddie's voice 'Just remember, this is your new life. Make some nice friends. Dad will pick you up after school.'

I smiled and turned to Harry 'See ya later little bro.' and fist pumped him.'Bye Maddie I will you see both of you when I get home.'

I picked up my bag from next to my feet and walked out of the car. This seemed surreal. I never thought I would be going to a high school in California, let alone the best school in the state.
