No one bothered her here. No one, not even her step-dad. The 'hidden' garden was supposed to be an indoor swimming pool, but the project had to be post-poned and after years, it was left and forgotten. Neglected. Just like her.
The pool was already built and so she asked her step-dad to have it built into a garden of some-sort. He reluctantly agreed and installed a swing inside the pool. She went to the nearest flower shop and planted various flowers inside pots. They were dead now.
Her feet swung back and forth on the swing, hoping if she got dizzy enough it would help her escape the reality that is doing homework.
Mirren has been kicked out of so many schools, six private all girls schools, and so her mother decided that homeschooling would be Mirren's brightest hope at learning. Unfortunately, her mother was wrong.
Although, that didn't improve her grades at all. Though she never failed, she never really succeeded either.
The garden was her secret place, her sanctuary. Until, Rachel Elizabeth Dare found out.
Rachel lived in the penthouse above her, and she was an amazing artist. And though her father isn't quite pleasing to be around, Rachel was great company. But that doesn't change the fact that she knows Mirren's safe place.
Mirren warms up to the idea though. The garden, now, wasn't only Mirren's, it was also Rachel's safe place.
Rachel, however, needed to escape from her parents, who cared more about money and investments rather then their own daughter.
But, as of currently, Rachel wasn't here. She was on vacation for the Christmas time until her break was over. Unlike Mirren, Rachel went to a public school, because she was normal.
Her hand gripped the book tightly, as the Marissa Meyer swept her from her reality to the world of Linh Cinder. Her life, was better than some but she wasn't all happy with it. She'd rather spend her days imagining than calculating.
"Mira!" A voice shouted. The voice of a certain red-head. "I missed you!"
She was attacked with a breathtaking hug from Rachel. Mirren hugged her back, of course, while trying not to loose the page she was on.
"Mira, I saw it again." Mirren sighed at those words. Sometimes, she saw the monsters that Rachel describes too. Not as often, but a few times in the year.
"Hey, you aren't crazy." Mirren tried to convince herself more than Rachel. It wasn't working very well for both girls.
"You're right. I'm insane!" Rachel exclaimed loudly as she fell dramatically to the swing.
"You're not insane if I see it too, Rach. We're not insane, half of the times we just see dogs that are huge. ."
Rachel looked up to Mirren and raised an eyebrow. "and have fangs. . . that are dead - okay! We're insane, better check ourself into Radley."
"You watch way too many tv shows." Mirren was the one who raised an eyebrow.
"What? I never really noticed, it's not like I have junk food stashed when I want to marathon something!"
Rachel raised a hand, "Stop it. Anyways, I was at the Hoover Dam and this boy tried to convince me that his sword, all bronze and stuff, was a pen!"
"Looks like you've found a crazy buddy." Mirren commented.
Rachel ignored her and continued on. "- and he asked if I could see the skeleton guards -"
"Woah, woah. Skeleton guards? That's new." New hallucinations, wonderful.
"Yes, skeletons. So, I kinda helped him out and then he was gone." Rachel finished.
"Maybe, we're not crazy. Maybe, the rest of the world is and we're the sane one's who can see the world for what it is."
