Chapter 5

"Surprise!"

Omg

" happy birthday Tessa!" Mia screeched coming up from the couch
Run to her and hugged her
" thank you!" I said excitedly
" don't thank me, thank your bf and bff"

That's not possible, they can't even stand being in the same room. How could they plan a party together.

"Happy birthday Baby!" James said putting his arm around me. Again I felt the emptiness, wishing it was Roy's hand instead

Stop Tessa. James is your boyfriend.

"Birthday girl!" Roy said, heading towards me. I could feel James tense up by his presence.

"Thank you guys so much this party is amazing" I exclaimed

"You're welcome" they both replied at the same time.

It was two hours since the party had started and things had already gotten wild.
"Do you want to go to the basement?!" I screamed to Mia
"What?!" She screamed back, hardly hearing me over the loud music
"BASEMENT!" I screamed even louder and she nodded her head.

After pushing through a hot crowd of dancing bodies we finally found our way to the quiet basement.

The basement was dark and full of old boxes. If I didn't have my flashlight I would have tripped over a thousand times.

Mia started digging into one of the boxes.

"I won't get all nosy in those boxes Mia, they're probably just old baby pictures"

She ignored me. As usual

"Curiosity killed the cat Mia" I called out to her

"Well if the cat is you then maybe" she replied

I got up from the bean bag to see what she was going on about. She was looking at an old picture of Roy with another girl and boy. He was around 15.

I couldn't recognize the girl. I definitely hadn't seen her before.

Then Mia pointed at the boy
"Hey isn't that.." Her voice faded out

"James?"
