My eyes shot open at the sound of my ring tone. I sat up and looked around me, taking in my surroundings. The familiar cool grey of my apartment's wall was the first thing in my line of vision. The room was flooded with light and I looked at the window it was coming from - I had forgotten to close the curtains.
Paige stirred beside me but didn't wake up. It was then that I realized that Paige and I had fallen asleep on the couch while watching the movie. I cringed when I saw that Paige's feet were where my face had been and my feet were on the same pillow her head was resting on. I looked at the alarm clock that was situated at side of my couch on a small table, 11:15 am.
The phone rang again, this time breaking me out of my thoughts. I stretched towards the coffee table to reach it. I looked at the caller I.D and didn't recognize the number.
"Hello?" My voice was still a bit hoarse from waking up. I felt the roughness of my voice in my throat as the sound escaped into the air. I coughed in an attempt to remove some of the hoarseness.
"Hello, Is this Miss Gray?" The man on the other end asked and I could swear that I recognized his voice, I just couldn't put my finger on the exact identity.
"Yes, I'm Catherine Gray." I yawned as my eyes scoured the disgustingly dirty room. I looked down at the duvet which covered both Paige and I's bodies - it had caramelized popcorn all over it. The worst part was that I was the one who would have to clean all that mess up.
"This is Dan. I'm calling about your job interview."
My eyes went wide and I quickly shook Paige to wake her up. I wanted her to be awake to support me. She wasn't a lot of help though because when she woke up she randomly shouted, "Where's the bacon?" I slapped her arm in an attempt to silence her.
I refocused my attention back on the call and put it on loud speaker for Paige to here as well, "Oh I see, thank you for calling, Dan."
"Well I've called you to inform you that you've got the job." my eyes went wide and I turned to Paige who had finally woken up and caught on. The blank expression on her face did little to show me that she was enjoying this moment with me.
"Oh my God, thank you so much, Dan," I couldn't find the proper words to thank him. I just kept mumbling words of thanks to him, "I swear you won't regret this!"
"I hope not," he chuckled and this was the first time I'd ever heard him chuckle, "welcome on board, Catherine."
"Thank you so much sir."
"Okay then, you can start Monday."
"I'll be there bright and early."
"Good. See you! then" He dropped the phone and I removed it from my ear and stared at it like a zombie. I stayed like that for a while in complete shock. That was the best news I could have ever heard.
Paige started shaking me wildly, "Cat, wake up!"
"I'm awake! I'm wide awake." I moaned as I removed her hands from my shoulders and scowled at her. She could have possibly decapitated me with just her hands if she had wanted to. She was really strong.
"You got the job!" She screamed and then attacked me with a hug. I chuckled and pulled her off of me. She let go and our faces were inches away from each other. I scrunched my nose as I made a disgusted face and Paige looked at me confused, "What?"
