Amaris wasn't eating. She picked at it just enough to make it look she was but she wasn't eating. She'd perfect the technique so that nobody noticed, tweaked it with different people like with Ravi for it to work she'd have to distract him with flirting or kisses. Pip was beside her yawning as she stared at her toast also not eating but not hiding it
"Why are you so tired this morning?" Leanne asks pip as she hand amaris her coffee
Pip just shrugged pulling her legs into a crisscross position after Josh kicked her the third time 'accidentally'
"Are you taking too much on with this Jamie thing?" Leanne asks and amaris sighs
"It's not a thing, mom, it's his life" she snaps
"I can be tired for that." Pip adds
"Okay okay" Leanne concedes taking Josh's bowl as amaris dumps her food "but I'm allowed to worry about you guys."
Amaris glances at her phone as Ravi texts her she opens the text as pip starts walking down the hall and her mom called out to her amaris wasn't listening as she crafted a response hitting send and finally look up focusing back on everyone who was gathered around the radio Thats when the words hit her ears
"......discovered the body at about six a.m. yesterday
morning in the woodland beside the A413, Officers are still at the scene. The deceased is as yet unidentified but has been described as a white male in his early twenties. The cause of death is currently unknown. A spokesperson for Thames Valley
Police has said –" the words faded out as amaris and pip both sway in reaction stumbling back. Amaris was frozen staring at the radio as Leanne told pip to go to the reynolds
"Amaris? Amaris baby hey are you there?" Leanne's voice broke the haze but amaris didn't respond and Josh tugged on Mari's shirt
When she didnt look at him he took her phone unlocking it "I know how to help her mom, I'll call Ravi" that snapped amaris from her trance and she whispered
"No, Hes on his way to court." She took her phone back "Im fine. I- pip needs me she can't face ghe reynolds alone. She grabbed her purse and the keys to the spare car- technically ig was hers but she hated driving.
Amaris let herself in her face pale and fingers trembling as she walked to the living room it was silent in the room air theres voice on the phone with a detective floated through but save for that it was silent and amaris immediately went over to Joanna on the couch and pulled her into a hug her mind blocking out all words and conversations as she held Joanna until aurthur walked in ghe phone gone from his hand
He was crying and everyone assumed the worst Joanna let out a cracked sob against amaris and that seemed to make him remember he hadnt said anything, "it's not Jamie" he whispered and the world bled together again as Joanna stood
"What?"
"It's not Jamie, jt's someone else. His family just identified him. It's not Jamie."
"It not Jamie?"
"It's not him," there was crying and an embrace from the two adults "It's not our boy. Not Jamie."
Conner moved to his parents and they fell to their knees all embracing and crying and thanking the air
Pip wrapped her arm around her sister as they stared at the family shaking infront of them, amaris held her sisters hand as the silently thought to themselves
They had another chance he wasn't gone but they had to work fast this was to close of a fucking call and they knew they wouldn't get a third chance
