If you haven't read The Forgotten by HonestMongoose ( me ), then please go read it. It will save you a lot of time, confusion, and wondering why the heck they named a twig Fred.

Hello, my name is Wrive Tacking. I'm now 13 years old, my birthday being a day or two ago. Oh yeah, don't worry about the guy chucking lightning around. He's with me. Don't panic over the girl doing triple-flips, either. She's with me, too. The guy with the mini rocket-launcher, on the other hand... oh wait, let me rewind.
Last year, I broke out of a place called Ultra Tech, or U.T. Ultra Tech captures kids with powers, kids like me. And the lightning-chucking guy, and the crazy gymnast. Anyways, after breaking out with a kid named Shawn ( also present ) and Allen ( not present ), I met some people: Rolly, the kid who's screaming his head off in a pitch so high that mankind has never heard it until now, Tarna, who's summoning random barricades of dirt and rock, Cassie/Cass, who's doing the triple- wait, no, quadrupole flip. ( Now she's just showing off. ) I also met Shiran, who... um... isn't present, and we don't plan on him showing up any time soon, if you know what I mean. And, of course, Ray, who up until a week or two ago was thought to be insane. We all have powers ( some more amazing than others, as Rolly can tamper with clocks from a distance while Ray scorches his way through problems ), and U.T wants us captured again. Or, due to everything that we've wrecked, dead. Anyways, being us, at the end if the summer, we went back there on a massive rescue mission. Our plan: to shut down Ultra Tech quickly and permanently. Buuuuuuuuuuuut... no one expected our former friend ( but really a loyal U.T agent ) Allen to show up with his evil helmet and lower our numbers by 1. After Shiran... became unavailable... we put up a fight against kids with black eyes. ( The whole eye. Not just the pupils. ) We gained a small victory against them, but worn out and battered, we retreated outdoors where most of the previously captured kids made a break for freedom. So, although ticked off, U.T is still in business. And they hate our guts and chase us around. So that pretty much brings you up to date with our current situation... oh wait, the Mystery Room! In the Ultra Tech building, there is a room. ( Interrupting guy: "Nooooo, really?" Well, yes really. There is a room. So there. ) In this room is... well, nobody knows. That's the mystery. It was defended better than the other rooms on the night of our break-in. So now you're up to date. Let's do this.
A party of ( DEATH! No, just kidding. Sorry. I've lived in hiding or captivity most of my life, they don't teach us any good jokes ) U.T guys found us, and so we ran away. It's called logic. The people who found us have, one: a mini rocket- launcher. That's a problem. Two: a quadrupole-axe, a.k.a a Bob Axe ( don't ask ), and three four and five: swords. We have officially decided that they're not here for tea and a friendly chat. The Bob Axe shoots darts that do something ( Same guy: "I never would have guessed." Well, guy, maybe you should let people finish their sentences. ), or maybe multiple somethings. That something, or one of those somethings, is that you're instantly asleep. We know because at the start of the chase, they hit Shawn, and he went out cold. He now has a comfortable seat on my back. Anyways, getting back on topic, the main problem is the mini rocket-launcher. The swords don't really bother us from 10-15 yards away. But mini rockets have come dangerously close, once even exploding and sending Cass into a back-flip. If that had been anyone but Cass, that person wouldn't be doing too well right now. ( But then, none of us are doing too well right now. ) I look back in time to see a perfectly aimed rocket, which, by the way, are heat-seeking, so it will arc perfectly through the air and gracefully blow us all off the face of the earth. The mini rocket soars toward us, easily going faster than us, and I can think of nothing to save us, nothing at all. Our deaths are sealed, the rocket will follow us, it will- fly backwards, making our pursuers do an odd dance to avoid it? I put together the pieces as I see Ray's hands smoking. ( Seeing someone's hands on fire doesn't panic me in the slightest. ) Ray's fire will misdirect the mini-rockets! Our lead on them grows as they dive to avoid the explosion. Their rocket launcher had been rendered useless! Now our pursuers are slowed greatly by shadows ( mine ), fire ( Ray's ), and lightning! ( Did I already tell you about Person? He's the newest edition to our team, and unfortunately, his memory has been wiped, making him forget his name. So we call him Person. He's quite good at chucking lightning, though. ) After around 20 minutes, we've thrown the Nerds off our trail. I lower Shawn off my shoulders and relax.
"Good job, guys." Rolly says. I know he's embarrassed, though, because his own ability is to slightly manipulate machines from a distance, thus he can't really help too much.
"Yeah, we left them in the dust!" laughs Cassie. We all smile and rest. In our crazy lives, there is no true peace. But right now, it is calm and we can relax. This is as good as we'll get it. Tarna, always the leader, breaks the quiet.
"Alright, people. Ultra Tech is on our trail, could be anywhere! We need to be prepared. I suggest a shelter."
"Out of what?" asks Ray. "Grass?" Looking around, I see his point. There's no cover in sight. Tarna frowns.
"Well, we might be able to use our powers-"
"No, it'd stand out too much." grumbles Ray.
"Yeah! We want to stand in." declares Shawn sleepily. I jump in surprise.
"Shawn! You're awake!" I cry in delight.
"Yeah... I was gonna help with those bad guys, but then I got real sleepy..." says Shawn. ( Who is, by the way, possibly connected spiritually to a twig named Fred, who currently resides in my makeshift backpack. So yeah. )
"That's fine, little man." replies Cass happily. Shawn smiles.
"Yeah, I'm a man now!" With that, he flops face-first to the ground again.
"Is he okay?" asks Person worriedly as I rush to Shawn's side. "I could do some medical stuff... do I know medical stuff?" I check, and Shawn is still breathing. I smile in relief.
"None of that needed, Person." Person, too, smiles in relief.
"Oh, good. I don't actually know any injury-fixing techniques."
"Poke him or her with a pointy object and see what happens." suggests Ray in his foul mood.
"Oh, c'mon, Ray!" complains Cass. "Turn that frown..." She does a handstand. "... Upside down!" After that, she falls back to a sitting position, giggling, but Ray is not amused.
"We're homeless, going to starve, and so much more!" He yells in frustration. "We are all going to die. Turn that upside down, Cassie!" Ray storms off angrily. This turns Cass' smile upside down.
"He's just grumpy." Person tries to comfort her. "We're going to be fine." But the truth of Ray's words is unsettling. We are homeless, and we'll starve eventually. Ultra Tech has all the advantages, as it usually does. I sigh, which makes Shawn sigh in his sleep, which triggers sighs from everyone else. Our tools for survival are lightning, fire, shadows, and one twig. Life just isn't fair sometimes.
