Prepping for surgury was not fun, Heathers mother was hysterical. She'd talk on the phone to the family doctor and Heathers grandmother for hours. "I don't know what to do about this i....No heather! Not the juice!" she was also very strict about certain foods and liquids heather ate. The only food, she was allowed to eat and drink was toast, chicken noodle soup, water and ginger ale. A couple days before the surgury the phone rang, "it's for you" her mother said looking grim, and handed it to her. "hello?" Heather said into the phone, "Hey kiddo,it's your old dad!" An excited voice awnsered back. Heather looked up to see her mother rolling her eyes, "um..hi?" she said hesitantly. "How are you sweetie? I heard your very sick!" She nodded, "ya..I've got a..um..a-" "a tumour" her father finished for her. "Ya that.. I've gotta get surgury" she said, "uh huh" he said back. "You'll be there, right?" she asked, "um..no..no I won't kiddo I'm busy" he said as her heart sank. "Busy?" she repeated, "ya I'm getting married" he told her. "married?!?" she half yelled, and her mother gave her a stern look, "ya" he said back. "Too who?" she asked, "to my girlfriend, rose you know her" he replied sounding nervouse. "But. ..." she began, the truth was she didn't want him to get married. His girlfriend made him move to Toronto, from saskatchewan. "look honey, I gotta go okay? I'll call you later" she didn't reply, but hung up the phone. Heather looked up at her mother, "he's not coming" she said and walked off to her room.

The air was thick with snow, the night before surgury. Heathers mother set a plate of food in front of her. "Eat" she said and started to walk off, "who's there so much food?" heather asked curiously. Her mother turned around, "you won't be able to eat tomorrow before surgury, and I want you to eat a lot so you won't be hungry." Heather sighed and picked up her fork, sometimes it was best to not argues with her mother, these were on of those times. The surgury brought out one good thing, no fighting. Her parents had stopped, and heather was quite glad, although there was constant tension. Later that night, her mother had told her to go to bed. She couldn't though, she kept thinking about the surgury and what would happen. She hoped her mother was right and it would be painless.

"Get up, hurry!" a arm grabbed her shoulder and gave her a shove. "now!" the voice said, and she could hear her mother leave her room. Heather groggily got up and sat in bed, the light was hurting her eyes, and she wished very much to go back to sleep. "Heather come on, we've got to go" her mother yelled. She climbed out of bed and walked into the hallway, she could see her mother running around the living room, checking things off of a list. "Are you okay mum?" Heather asked her, her mother ran past her talking about blankets and pillows. Her step father was packing things into a bag, "is mom going..crazy?" she asked him. He looked up at her and shrugged, she sat down at the table. "Heather don't eat any food!" Her mother yelled, "I know!" She yelled back.

They were on the road, it was a five hour drive to the hospital where she'd get surgury. Heather unable to fall asleep in the car, (the motion kept her awake.) Looked out the window most of the ride, she couldn't say she was excited or scared. Heather was neither, her mother however was bursting with emotions, Alex who'd come for the ride was happy. Her step father didn't come so her parents couldn't argue,She looked towards alex to see her fast asleep. She smiled and looked back towards the window. Heather could see the beautiful country side, she could see horses and hay bales. It was much better than seeing a empty parking lot all day. "Well we're here" her mother said a couple hours later, Heather looked out her window to see the city. It was bright and very busy, they drove up to a big hospital. Heather got out and started feeling....nervouse? The hospital was huge, and she saw people running in and out of it. They started walking towards it, they got inside and her mother led her to the receptionist desk. "Heather jaycox" she said firmly, the receptionist looked at the computer and nodded. They took a seat in the waiting room, surprisingly a nurse came right away. "Heather" she said, she was less cheerful than the other nurse. Much less cheerful. The nurse led them down a hallway and into a big bright, white room. There was a cot, and a couple of chairs. "Heather I'll get you to lay on the cot, Ms. jaycox I'm afraid you can't come in during surgury" she said. Her mother nodded grimly and heather climbed onto the cot, she layed down scared. They waited until the nurse pushed her, and f he cot into another room. This one was less big and had wierd machines in it, the nurse pushed her beside one of them. "Okay Heather, I'm just going to put this mask on you." She turned to see a suregean, holding a mask that was hooked up to a machine.
The surgeon put the mask on her and she instantly felt wierd, sleepy, very sleepy. She saw the surgeons around her as she fell asleep............
