The week in the hospital wasn't exactly fun. Heather had read the book twice, and stayed in bed most of the time, flipping through channels. Her mother and her tried to walk around the hospital. Unfortunately, every few minutes the machine attached to her would beep, and they'd have to get a nurse to stop it. Her mother walked in, "how are we doing?" she asked cheerfully. Heather made a noise, that sounded very much like a raptor screech. "That bad huh?" her mother asked her, Heather turned toward her "there's nothing to do" she couldn't help but whine. "You could read your book" her mother suggested, "but I've read it a billion times" Heather told her. "Twice is not a billion times" Daisy said coming inside, she handed Heather a bowl of chili. "Today's your last day anyway" she told her, "it is?" Heather asked. "Yup, but first you have to eat the chili." She said gesturing to it, Heather ate it quickly. Even though it tasted more like carboard than chili, she didn't care! She was going home, back to alex, back to....Her heart sank, she'd be going back to fights and her step father. What if someone got hurt? Really, really hurt? What would she do? Her mother looked at her "are you okay?" She asked, Heather looked up at her. "Ya fine."
******
Her mother pushed her out the front doors, Heather was bundled in a blanket, sitting in a wheelchair. She would've been able to walk, but it was icy, and the doctors worried that she'd fall and get hurt. Small snowflakes danced through the wind, and she stuck out her tongue to taste one. Her mother steered her towards her Ford Escape. "Ready?" She asked her as they got into the car, "ya" Heather mumbled. The truth was, Heather wasn't ready. At all. In fact she'd rather stay in the hospital, for a hundred years than go back, but she couldn't leave Alex. Her mother slammed her door shut, "home" she called as she started the car. They drove away from the hospital, away from the peacefullness and queit.
Away.
