Someone had to have known the end was coming. The government had to know they wouldn't be able to keep the virus X secret forever. The virus would break out at some point. No matter how hard they tried, it never helped them in the long run. Not a single human understood the potential of the virus' capabilities.

I am afraid to say that the rumors are true. A patient with virus X escaped confinement, attacking four doctors late last night. The doctors are now experiencing the 5 symptoms of the virus. The slow green tint appearing to their skin, seizures, coughing up blood, migraines, and a high deadly fever. Once the virus takes over the person's body, they will try to attack you, confine them as best as you can. The patient was confined once more and put down due to government order. There are now 13 patients diagnosed with the virus. Doctors are having a rough time controlling them even in chains. At first glance, they look dead, but that is not the case. The infected are to admit themselves to the local clinic as soon as possible, including if you are a victim of being bitten by the infected. We recommend you stay indoors until the military makes their way to your home. Be cautious.

The power cut, leaving the room silent. Dustin glanced over at his small kitten and pulled her onto his lap. He had already locked all of his doors, giving him the slightest sense of comfort in his tiny urban home. His father had gone out of the country for a business trip, leaving him alone during this time. Dustin never worried about what was occurring outside, he figured the government always had it under control.

The house gave an eery feeling, giving Dustin the emotion that things were not the same. This time he would take more interest. His mind wandered off as it did when he stressed. He laid back on the couch and let himself daydream until he drifted off to sleep. The worrying would have to wait.

Dustin woke up to a loud screeching from the television. He sat up noticing his kitten, Carrie, had left his side. A message rolled across the screen trying to get all the words in before the next power outage.

The message reads:

The infected are free. They are all over the streets. Find safety as soon as possible. Do not leave for supplies,  the chaos will push you back. STAY INSIDE UNTIL FURTHER INSTRUCTION! Safe houses will be up at the HIGH SCHOOL, COMMUNITY CENTER, AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. We encourage you to join these, one of the safest places...

Dustin zoned the rest of it out, he believed the media blew everything out of proportion. All he wanted was sleep and maybe it would all just carry out overnight. A storm raged outside, the lightening shook his home. The power would go out and he would again be left in the dark.

Dustin made his way to the kitchen and made himself a bag of popcorn. He might as well eat while he still can. The bag was burning hot when he took it from the microwave. He dropped the popcorn bag on his foot, from the sudden, abrupt banging coming from his front door.
