CATOS POV

I waited outside the training center for Clove to come out. Landon was, luckily, no where to be seen. Right after I had Gavin talk to Cloves trainer about switching training partners, the little eavesdropper went and did the same. At first I wasn't worried. Sure Clove was closer to Landon but she wasn't stupid, she would choose me. But then, what if she doesn't. What if she didn't know who I was and what I could do. I have to do whatever I can to make sure she chooses me. Because If I didn't get her that means Landon would. It really wouldn't be that disastrous but There was down thing els there something I couldn't put my finger on- just then clove stepped out of the training gym.

"Hey Clove" I said in the best casual seductive voice I could manage.

"Hello Cato" she replied with a smile. This was the first time she had spoken directly to me. There was something different about her voice it was still high and whimsical but there was something els there.

"Is it alright if I walk you home?" I asked "I guess there's some stuff that I should explain."

"Of course. I have a lot of questions." There was definitely something there

"So uh. To start off do you have any questions?" I suggested

"Well first. Why? Why would you-Cato Talbolt- one of the strongest boys in District 2 want someone like me as a training partner?" She asked with a pout.

I smiled to myself. So she had heard of me.

"Well Clove why wouldn't I?" I asked as I "accidentally" brushed my hand against her arm.

"Because I'm small, inexperienced, and a year younger than you are." Her dark wide eyes looked up at me, full of self doubt.

I was a bit taken aback by this. She was acting very confident early. But She was going to take some convincing.

"Well you're bomb with knives. I've never seen anything like that in my life, I've never even seen a trainer that good." It was no lie she made her accuracy and timing seem effortless and she hit the center of every target without braking a sweat. But I don't think her trainer had anything to do with it. You have to be born with that but I couldn't tell her that. Filling someone- even a tiny underage girl- with confidence is the wrong way to go if you wanna win in life. But You wouldn't expect any talent like that from her. She just looked so innocent, so.. Pure- my thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Cloves melodic high pitched laugh.

"I have a lot of spare time." She said with another smile, this one seemed bigger and genuine.

"You have to teach me that!" I said

Her smile dropped immediately. And her eyes narrowed slightly. Was it something I said?

"Oh yes about that. If I do choose you to be my training partner you'll have to teach me things you know.. In exchange for for what I know" she said in a much different voice than before

"Oh yeah, duh. Of course ill teach you some"- a thought suddenly occurred to me "what do you mean IF you choose me?" I asked defensively.

This brought a very different kind if smile. This wasn't a smile as much as a cocky grin

"Well you know, Landon wants me to be his training partner too."

"And you would actually consider him?" I asked baffled

"I don't know. I don't know which of you is more likely to succeed." She said in a high whimsical voice.

I couldn't help but laugh. This had to be a joke. "Oh...trust me.... Ill succeed."

"We'll see" she said with a smirk

She led me to the front door of a house that must've belonged to her. The house was big, not as big as mine but it was big.

Clove turned to me as if she was gonna say something but then closed her mouth. She seemed to be debating something in her head, as I watched her I noticed how big her eyes were they were a perfect size for her big purses lips. It looked like her eyes were watering but that was just because of how dark it was. I've been with some of the prettiest girls in district 2 but there was something different about her face. I mean she was hot but a different kind of hot. Maybe id get knife throwing skills and id get to hit it.

"Hey what's up?" I asked her

She didn't have a chance to reply because as she was opening her mouth her front door opened at the same time. There in the doorway was what looked like Cloves twin. This person looked just like Clove except much bigger with short hair and smaller eyes and mouth, and instead of Cloves innocent look he wore a disgusted grimace.

Canyon Fuller in the flesh.

As I had expected he wasn't as tall as I use to think he was. I was bigger and taller than him, no wonder my brother won. I could tell by the way his grimace turned into a grin that he recognized me.

"Wow. It's like I'm standing right next to Gregory." His tone implied that that was a bad thing. "Does your family ever get confused? It's sad really, how much you two look alike."

"I was just about to say the same." I gestured between him and Clove.

Canyon smirked at me (it was easy to see where Clove got her smile from).

"Clove get inside. Dads here you've kept him waiting." He said without taking his eyes off me

"Dads here." Clove stated. She listened to her older brother and brushed passed me me and made her way upstairs, Canyon watched her to make sure she was leaving. When she disappeared, from our sight outside the door, he turned back to face me.

"I want you to stay away from my sister."

"Why?" I argued

"I know what you're doing. She's going to the games. She doesn't need you. You're not gonna screw her up. You're not gonna screw her at all."

What was that supposed to mean? Well I was thinking about screwing her but that's not ALL I want from her.

"She's gonna be my Training partner. And she does need me more than she knows" I realized that what I was saying was true. She needed to be more skilled with more than just knives if she wasn't gonna embarrass district 2.

"Do you know how many guys come here asking for my sister all the time?" Obviously a rhetorical question "Just go home. Stop wasting your time. Leave my sister alone."

I could have stopped him when he slammed the door in my face but I chose not to. Well Canyon had obviously jumped to the wrong conclusions but there were a few things for sure. I definitely wasn't gonna leave Clove alone now.
