I spotted Tyler in the crowd of people going into the school. I ran over to him "Tyler! Hi!"
He turned. "Josh!" I ran over and hugged him. He backed away. "Wh-" "Josh...don't." We hugged all the time. What was wrong? I suddenly felt my heart stop and my stomach drop. Did he know? I blinked to keep my eyes from filling with tears. "Bro. Some people think we're-" he looked around. "Gay." I didn't know whether to be relieved or devastated. He didn't know I liked him but he was homophobic. No, no, no. I wanted to tell him, I did. "You know that kid Brendon? I heard he's gay. With that Ryan kid."
"Oh." I knew them. They were nice.
"They're probably just friends."
I decided to change the subject. "You know that drum set I got this summer?"
"Yeah."
"Well I started playing it."
"Nice."
The first bell rung. We started walking.
