Prologue

I knocked on the old door and waited for a response. She wasn't here. Good. An old man opened the door. He looked up to me and smiled warmly.

"Mr. McLaughlin," he smiled.

"Sir, I have a question about... something," I began.

With those words spoken, he understood immediately. He nodded and invited me in, putting his hand on my shoulder. Before he shut the door, he looked at his surroundings. No one should hear this conversation.

...

"I think I heard all I need. Thank you, sir," I stood up.

I set down the teacup on his coffee table and headed out the door. Before I took a step outside, I felt a strong grip on my wrist. It was him. I needed to remind myself not to underestimate this man.

"Take care of her McLaughlin. Take care of them. They will face many hardships in the days to come. Please. Promise me you'll look after them... especially my little girl. My granddaughter," He said.

I saw fear in his eyes. Not just for her but for his people. He needed them safe. I wish I could be as kind as him.

"She's the only thing I have. She's the last in my bloodline. Please take care of her, Rhett,"

I paused.

"I will, sir,"

"Promise!"

"I promise,"

He let me go. I sprinted to my car. I looked back to his house. His door was shut and it was silent again. I shouldn't be there that long. The car started and I drove away. I knew this was a task I did on my own. Not even Link knows about this. No one should know. So I had to hurry.

Yet, my mind drifted to that man's words. Of course, I'll take care of her. She's practically my daughter. I wouldn't let anything harm her. I will always protect her. Always.
