Chapter 3

"Moving In"

The doorbell rang as I pressed the button. I waited for a few seconds before somebody opened the door. It was Shepard.

"Hey, buddy!" I grinned.

"Annie!" Shep yelled as he advanced forward and hugged me.

"Shep! TOO TIGHT!" I choked.

"Annie!" Locke smiled, leaving his game in the living room.

"Locke! Give me five, bro!"

Locke attempted to give me a high five but I purposely moved my hand away.

"Too slow," I chuckled.

"No fair!" Locke whined.

I wrapped my arms around the two boys while they helped me carry my things into their house. They were like little brothers I've never had.

"Look at you, Locke! You're getting taller! It's only a matter of time until you pass me,"

"Yeah. I don't want to be as tall as Dad,"

"I got another tooth out!" Shepard declared.

"Oh, who's the big boy?" I teased.

"Please. That guy still whines while playing Five Nights at Freddy's," Locke rolled his eyes.

"I don't!"

"Yeah, you do!"

"Alright, fellas!" I said as they broke them apart. "No fighting! Speaking of your father, where's he?"

"Oh, he'll be down in a minute," Locke replied.

"Annie?"

I looked to the kitchen and saw Jessie. I ran up to her and gave her a hug.

"Jess!" I smiled.

"Glad you're here! I could really use some help with handling the kids," Jessie whispered.

"Oh, I'll handle them, alright,"

"Boys, could you take Annie's bags to guest's bedroom?"

"Oh, no! I can do that!" I offered.

"Nonsense! You must be tired,"

"We don't mind!" Shepard shouted.

"Well...alright,"

The brothers rushed upstairs, carrying my bulky bags. Jessie continued her conversation with me as she prepared dinner.

"Thanks for doing this, Jessie. You have no idea how big of a help this is," I began.

"No problem, sweetie! Well... you know, Rhett and I were thinking... No.Never mind," Jessie shook her head.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing. Nothing. Just forget I said that,"

"Ok..."

"Annie?" A familiar voice echoed in the house.

I perked up. Jessie smiled at me.

"I think might want to see him,"

I rushed to the living room and found Rhett racing down the stairs. With a big grin, he opened his arms wide as I ran to his embrace.

"Rhett!" I smiled.

"There's the brat that's gonna stay with us!" Rhett put me down after hugging me. "I don't think you'll need a tour of the house because you've been here a million times,"
