Dodie and I both sat on a little leather sofa waiting for Tom and the manager of "the T-Rex" to finish their chat about the technical side of the show. The waiting room was on the left side of the black hallway, if you were to go through the small wooden door on the left, you would see another wooden door leading to the managers office and in between those two door was the waiting room where me and Dodie were waiting patiently and awkwardly. Even though we had our little moment back there on the stage the conversation following it was short lived, she asked me if I watched her videos on YouTube to which I replied with a nod. I asked her why she was preforming in "the T-Rex" and she said that the manager contacted her through one of her friends and asked if she would want to preform with another artist on stage, she of course agreed and that was all that she told me before the manager walked in. He introduced himself as Josh Listine, a business man and a lover of beautiful music. He then asked us all to go into his office which was painted in an elegant pearly white color, the wooden desk that was placed to the left of the door was dark and rich, there were so many little things on it that didn't have anything to do with each other that it was almost drowning the desk down. Little magmatic balls and wooden sculptures of different Greek gods, bizarre pens with little toys of disney characters glued on top of them and many more tiny treasures. He referred to himself as a failed artist, he wanted to play his entire life but he failed to even hold an instrument without breaking it, so he built "the T-Rex", so he could host as many artist as he possibly could here, so that the place would be the centre of the musical world. He scared me a little bit I have to admit, I mean the guy wore a T-shirt with palm trees on it! You can't trust the Palm trees. Then after a long talk about the arts etc he told me and Dodie to leave the office for a couple of minutes so that he and Tom could talk alone. So here we are. Sitting silently without saying a single world, without making a sound.
"Hey.. Dodie" I said. She turned around and looked at me with a slightly surprised look in her eyes, I noticed that she has been biting the skin around her thumb while we were sitting quietly. Must have been a bad habit of hers but the moment I broke the silence she stopped.
"Do you want to walk around the building for a little while, they seem to be going at it and I don't think they'll stop chatting for quite some time" I continued. She smiled at me, her smile was so bright it felt like she lit the whole room up.
"I would love to" she stood up from her spot on the right side of the sofa and headed towards the door. She opened it in the most childish way possible and held the door open for me. She said
"I should have thought about going outside a long time ago but I've been here since 8... singing and practicing. I didn't really have a change to explore"
I don't know why I giggled at that moment, I just did. I felt like I had to. I stood up and walked through the wooden door, back to the black hallway. She closed the door as she exited the room herself and we began our adventure. We both opened the entrance door with great force and effort, we felt the cold autumn breeze hit us like a sudden unexpected wave and I knew that we were smiling like idiots. I don't know why we were so happy, we barely even knew each other. Maybe Dodie was happy because she finally exited the building after so many hours of being trapped in it and maybe I was happy because... I actually don't know, I was just happy. We closed the doors behind us slowly and carefully.
"There's a places that sells really delicious ice cream around the corner, wanna go there?" Said Dodie.
"Yeah sure. Even if it were freezing outside I would have still said yes" I smiled at her and we started walking. Meanwhile we were stepping on small and big puddles that were created by the rain that was pouring down like crazy this morning. At some point in our jumping on puddles adventure I decided to tell Dodie something.
"Hey Dodie, what do you call a fake noodle?"
She stopped jumping and began to walk normally, she looked at me in wonder.
"Hmm... What do you call a fake noodle?"
"An impasta!" I said loudly with my hands in the hair. She ironically laughed at my unfunny joke.
"I've got one up my sleeve as well" Dodie claimed.
"Well what is it?"
"What do you call a mountain of kittens?"
"What?" I had a feeling I knew what she was going to say.
"A meowntain!" Yep. I knew. But I still giggled as she did a little dance that involved spinning around herself and doing jazz hands.
"You know what? You remind me of a friend of mine only he loves puns a lot instead of jokes. Like a lot. I hear him make puns on a daily basis." She said after she stopped dancing her little improv dance.
"He must be awesome then"
"Yeah he is but sometimes it gets ridiculous. He also has a YouTube channel"
"Oh really? Is he a singer too?"
"Nah. He makes vlogs every week. And lot of his video have puns in them. He's one of my best friends."
We kept walking for another 2 minutes when we saw a little white shop with an ice cream sign on top, we found our destination. We walked into the shop which was ever colder then the weather outside. We looked through all the delicious flavors of ice cream like we were six year olds who borrowed money from their mom to buy delicious ice cream.
"So what are you having?" I asked.
Dodie paused for a second.
"I have no freaking clue. They all look so good!"
"I'm eyeing the mint chocolate chip one" she giggled at my response. She sat down on the floor and looked through all of the flavors again and again until she finally said
"Well I'm eyeing the cookie dough one and the raspberry one"
"Excuse me" I said to one of the workers behind the counter. I always wanted to work at a place like that when I was a teenager so I kind of envied them.
"Could we taste the cookie dough flavor and the raspberry one?" I said with a big smile on my face. The worker nodded and gave me two spoons, one filled with the cookie dough flavored delight and the other one with the raspberry flavored delight. I gave the spoons to Dodie almost immediately.
"Go on." I said. Dodie licked the cookie dough ice cream first then the raspberry one, she had a look on her face of pure enjoyment and childishness. She thought a little bit, licked some more and then decided to buy the cookie dough flavored ice cream. We walked out of the shop with an ice cream cone each in our hands. We walked around the area for about half an hour, chatting about random things like our favorite TV shows, our favorite flavor of cake and good childhood memories. We walked and walked until we couldn't walk no more and decided to rest next to tree in a near by park. We leaned our heads on an old big tree silently for a couple of seconds. Then
"You know, one of my friends is a magician" said Dodie.
"That must be really fucking cool Dodie, I wish I had a friend like that"
"Yeah he's really cool especially when I'm drunk. I already love magic but when I'm drunk it's even more" she paused.
"Magical" I laughed out loud and looked at the trees branches, most of the leafs were already yellow or orange but I managed to spot the one green leaf. It was like finding a golden star in the sky.
"Can you see it?" I said.
"See what?" Dodie looked at me, trying to see where I was pointing at.
"Up there"
"In the sky?"
"No silly" I gigged "in between the trees leafs, there is only one green leaf there" Dodie looked at the trees branches only to find there were absolutely no green leafs there.
"You're bullshiting me, there's nothing there"
"Look closer Dodie I know you can" Dodie squinched her eyes almost to the point of closing them. And then she saw it. A tiny green leaf that hasn't yet grown to it's potential size.
"I see it" she said. You could hear her smile when she said that. I giggling for some reason and Dodie joined me, giggling as well. We sat there for what felt like hours, having a fantastic time together. Finishing our ice cream cones and telling stupid jokes. Suddenly it was pitch black, I didn't even notice it was getting dark at all. I got up from my position under the tree and said
"Come on, it's time to go back" I offered Dodie a hand and Dodie sighed.
"Yeah you're right" she took my hand and stood up as well. As we started walking back to the T-Rex I remembered that the reason I was there today in the first place was to practice tomorrows show with Dodie.
"Crap weren't we supposed to practice today?" Dodie stopped walking and looked at me with a shocked expression.
"Oh yeah I totally forgot about that" she relaxed herself by lowering her shoulders and breathing, then she started walking with me again.
"Well we did have that little moment on stage and we had really good harmonies then so I think we'll be fine. We'll work something out surely" she threw one of her big happy smiles at me and I immediately felt relieved.
"Yeah you're right let's not stress out, let's just enjoy the bloody moment"
When we arrived back at the T-Rex Josh and Tom were waiting outside the entrance, practically screaming at us for not telling them where we were going but we aren't kids anymore and when they realized we were okay they calmed down and went back inside the building. Apparently we'll be staying at a near by hotel for the night so we'll get up early tomorrow and work our asses off for the show. I didn't panic this time. I trusted myself and Dodie, we'll be a blast tomorrow I'm sure of it.
