While Slender was hunting, Splendor was keeping a keen eye on the child, he was worried, not only for the childs safety, but his brothers sanity. Slender had never been the affectionate type, always shying away from hugs and the rare family moments they had as young Slenderfolk, and this - taking in a child - had taken the older brother by surprise, Slender wasn't the type to bring in strays - especially one that he had contemplated eating.
He worried that this would take it's toll on his brothers health.
Slenderfolk are practically immortal, hardly anything can kill them, and they don't get sick - they have healing powers that can heal first degree injuries and prevent death, but Splendor worried that Slender would get sick from stressing over keeping the child safe, it was something new to him and Splendor worried he wouldn't be able to cope.
Interrupting the many worried thoughts swirling around within Splendors unusually stressed mind, a small cough came from the door behind the spot on the floor Splendor was sat, the tall man glanced behind him before standing faster than the human child in the doorway could blink.
The small girl stood there for a second, taking in Splendors appearane before backing away slightly. "You're not Slender!" he cocked his head to the side and planted the smile back on his face,
"No, child, I'm Splendor, Slenders brother. He asked me to care for you while he was... out." Splendor couldn't bring himself to tell the poor child that the man who saved her in the forest was a well known child murderer. "I promise child, I mean no harm. What's your name?" The girl looked apprehensive as Splendor walked towards her, but the Splendorman watched in amazement as she drew herself up to her full height - only coming up to Splendors knees in the process - and planted a smile on her face.
"I'm Erica, did Slender tell you that we couldn't find my Mommy and Daddy?" Splendor was shocked at the way she spoke - very well articulated for a six-year-old human child, especially one from a home like Slender had described.
"He did, Erica. I'm very sorry to hear that." the girl remained quiet as Splendors soft voice floated through her mind, The Splendorman walked over to the girl and crouched down so he was at eye-level with her. "You're going to be perfectly well here, Erica. Slender and I will never leave you alone ever again." The girl let a small smile creep onto her lips and she threw her arms around Splendor in an unexpected hug.
The Tall Man wrapped his arms loosely around the child in return after he regained his composure, suddenly picking her up and spinning her around as she squealed.
He'd been wrapped around her little finger already.
