"Jayceon do I have to meet them today?" I asked my boyfriend of two years. I know it's a shame how we gated for two years and I still haven't met his people. "You are going to be fine. I met your people, so return the favors." he said and I just sighed.

What if his family doesn't accept me. My last boyfriend's father hated me because I made more money than his son. We was about to get married as well, until I told him I wanted him to sign a prenup. The father looked at me like I was crazy. I was just protecting my money, that's all. So his father called off the wedding I paid for. He better be glad I could get my money back.

"Jay, what if he they don't like me?" I asked. He looked at me and I looked at him because I was so serious about this shit. "My mother adore you because I always talk to her about you. Cali is 5, what do she know about liking you, but King... He might not like you." he said and I just became sad.

"How come?" I asked. Jay just signed. "King is going to think you are taking his mother place. He hasn't fully recovered from the fact that his mother is gone." he said. I know how that feels, I lost my mother when I was younger as well so the feeling is mutual.

"Okay, I'll go." I said. We got dressed and headed for the park for the family cookout. It was a lot of them niggas. I was getting nervous as we walked up to the family. I am a shy person so I smile too hard.

"Aye look, Jayceon showed up with a girl" somebody said and I just blushed.

"Mariah, this is my godmother Alisha, her husband Leroy. This is my cousins, Jared, Michael, Stephen & Lester." He said as they were the first few people so far.

"Hello!" I said shyly. "She's gorgeous" His godmother said as she pulled me into a warm hug.

We walked up to this buff looking dude. This man looks nothing like the family so I just went along.

"Well, well, well if it isn't little Jay and his little girlfriend" he said. Apparently Jayceon didn't even pay him no mind. "Jackson, back off your baby brother" a woman called out as she was walking with a little girl.

"Sorry ma" he said as he walked away from us. I felt really relief because I know how Jay gets when it comes to people who intimated him like that.

"Now Jay, she better not be them fast ass girls you be bringing around here." His mother said and I felt a little insulted but then again, I ain't fast so I shouldn't have to be defensive at all.

"Na, ma. She ain't fast. Mariah, this is my mama. Mama, this is my medical student girlfriend." he said

"Medical?" she said as she looked at me. "Yes ma'am, I am getting my PhD in the spring to become a doctor." I replied and she smiled.

"At least you are becoming something. I can use you in future references." she said and I nodded. 

"Well come on girl, there's more people you gotta meet." she said as she grabbed my hands.

Hours of talking with the family, I was playing with little Miss California |Cali|. We was on the seasaw having fun, knowing my big ass shouldn't be on this, but she did so I sat my ass on it. Cali grew tired as I carried her sleepy body to her father to hold while I go and look for King.

I found him in the tree so I climbed up there with him. "Hey Kiddo" I said as I sat next to him. "Hi" he said all dryly. Great, I guess it's true he don't really like me.

"My name is Mari-" he cut me off. "I know who you are. Why are you here?" he said. I couldn't believe I was being talked this way by him. "Your father invited." I replied. "This is a family event. I don't recall you being a member." he said as he looked the other way. 

Yep, I remember this feeling when my father bought around his new girl. He waited until 8 months to start dating. I thought it was too early, he could had at least waited a year or so.

"You know King, I know exactly what you are going through." I said. He scoffed and rolled his eyes. "How?" he replied with so much attitude.

"I lost my mother when I was 13. I didn't want my father to find another woman. I am the only child so I don't really have anyone to depend on, but my father." I said and he turned around with tears in his eyes.

"Really?" he said sadly. "Yeah, he waited about 8 months to start dating and I wasn't with that. You see, your father waited a year to start. All he needed was his break to himself to get it together for you and Cali. " I said as I was wiping his tears. I know King was looking because he started walking towards us.

"I just want my dad to be happy again." he said. "And he already is. I don't want you to think I am taking your mother's place. She'll always be your mommy and I'll be your shoulder to cry on. If you ever need somebody to talk to about this, you can always come to me." I said looking into his eyes.

"Thanks Mariah. Thank you for being here. Thank you making my dad a happy man again." he said. He is smart for an eight year old. "No problem King" I said. 

"Mariah?" He called me. "Hm?" I looked at him. "Can we get ice cream and get to know each other?" he said. I smiled "Sure" I said as we climbed down and he wrapped his arms around me and we walked to Jay as he smiled at us.

"Everything cool?" he asked. "Yup, Mariah and I getting ice cream so we can get to know each other." King said.

"Okay, enjoy yourselves." Jay said as we walked to the truck.

I can say I know for sure I fit into the family very well. Both kids are very energetic and I was loved that about them. I love his family
