Chapter Two
Remind Me How We Met
November 2
The first time I met Watson, I was fourteen years old. He was fifteen years old, almost turning sixteen. I had just gotten off from my ballet classes when I ran into him and his friends on my way home. They were smoking at a bus station a few blocks away from my house.
As I walked past them, I noticed I had caught the attention of one of the boys there. Watson. I knew his name at the time, but I had never talked to him. He was infamously known at my high school for a being a complete troublemaker. Of his fifteen—almost sixteen—years of life, he'd been arrested thrice for drug distribution, aggravated assault, and identity theft. He's also been suspended from school for vandalism and violation of school rules.
Brayden, who attended the same school as I did at the time, warned me to stay away from Watson and his gang. I heeded his warnings, but it was kind of hard to follow when Watson kept trying to talk to me.
Snow had told me that Watson had a thing for me, but I never believed her. He was in a relationship with Maya at the time—Maya, who was known to be the bitchiest bitch you could ever meet in your life.
But then summer came along, and Watson would always wait for me outside of the building where my ballet classes took place. While I found that to be a little creepy at first, over time, it wasn't anymore. We became friends, but I never expected it to last because he was a grade level above me, which meant that I would never be able to take the same classes as he would—
Or so I thought.
First day of sophomore year, I walked into math class to find him sitting in the back of the room by himself. When he saw me, his eyes lit up, and I was unsure of whether or not I should sit by him. Snow didn't have the same math class as I did, for she took honors math, so I made up my mind and took the seat next to him.
We started hanging out a lot after that. We studied together, went to places together... We hung around each other so much that people started thinking we were together—and when Maya heard, she wasn't pleased at all.
Maya was a pretty girl with luscious brown locks, dark brown eyes, and chocolate colored skin. She was intelligent, but intelligent in a shrewd kind of way. She loved to plan the demise of people, and I hated her.
A few months into the school year, during my sophomore year, Watson broke up with her. I couldn't help but wonder if it had to do with me. Now that I think about it, maybe it was because of me. A few weeks after he broke up with her, that was when his pursuits started. He bought me flowers and chocolates, and wrote corny poems to slip into my locker. He even asked me to be his date for the winter formal. To say I fell hard for him was a bit of an understatement. I more than fell hard for him. I was irrevocably in love with him.
I later learned that the reason why he was taking a sophomore math class was because he had failed sophomore year. He always told me, though, that failing it had been the best thing to have ever happened to him, because if it weren't for that, then we would've never gotten together.
He officially asked me to be his girlfriend on Valentine's Day, when we were both sophomores, and we've been together ever since.
