Mum walks down the isle with grandad’s arm linked with hers. I put my hand over my mouth in shock as I stare at my grandad. It was two years ago that I saw him last in Australia, where he lives now with his wife (my grandma). Mum said he wasn’t coming. Apparently he couldn’t make it. Liar, I think to myself. I know she was only saying it so it would be a surprise so in theory she wasn’t actually lying. Grandad stares at me and sends me a small but meaningful smile. I smile back. I’m glad my part is over.
Walking down that isle was one of the scariest moments of my life. I mean this was my parents wedding and if anything went wrong it would spoil their special day. I didn’t want to screw up. I have screwed up so many things in my life but I have learnt lessons from my stuff ups. I think back to walking down. Everyone staring at me. Was I walking to fast? Did I look okay? I really did hope so.
Noah blows me a kiss and I glance quickly at him. He mouths something to me and I know straight away what it is. “I love you”. I mouth it back hoping no one will notice.
Mum and dad take hold of each others hands. The officiate speaks and mum and dad say their vows to each other. At this stage I am actually quite emotional. I’m not that much of an emotional person but right now it is just really getting to me. The words coming out of their mouths are so touching. They sound so unreal but I do believe that these words are all true and that what they are saying will be held with them for the rest of their lives that they will share together. “I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride” the officiant says as they lean in to kiss. Everyone claps and I look around to see people tearing their eyes out. Are weddings normally like this? Dad lifts his and mums hand up together and everyone cheers. I see that smile on mums face that I haven’t seen in so long. Finally we are a proper family.
“Will you take this dance” Noah asks as he comes up behind me and puts his arms around my waist. “Of course” I reply as we join hands and dance with the music. “I feel like I have found the one” I whisper into Noah’s ear. “Huh?” Noah questions as he sends me a confused look. “You, I feel like you’re the one” I reply as I kiss the side of his cheek. “I hope I am because I know you’re the one” he says before he brings me closer and kisses me like I have never felt before.
I walk over to mum and dad where they are sitting together on the swing seat. “What does it feel like to be married” I ask as I sit down on the wet grass in front of them. After I realise its wet I scream and jump up brushing the grass of the back of my dress, “Well it feels…” they both state at the same time. “Ladies first” dad exclaims as mum kisses him. “It feels amazing, I feel like my whole world has changed, definitely for the best” she tells me as dad pulls her onto his lap. He starts kissing her hard out and I put my hands over my face to block them. “Gross guys, get a room” I call before running back to Noah who is waiting for me with a big grin on his face. I jump into his arms and he holds me so close.
I wake up the next morning and the house is empty. With Mum and Dad away on their honeymoon the whole house is in my hands. That means some special and alone time with Noah. Nothing could be better.
I run around my bedroom searching for my ringing phone. It’s Savannah, haven’t heard form her in ages. I answer and before I can speak she is screaming in my ear. “Kylie where have you been lately?” she asks practically screeching as loud as she can into the phone. “Woah chill, I’ve just been busy that’s all, aren’t we all?” I reply as I wait for her response. She always has a problem with whatever I say. She’s always right, apparently. “What? Too busy to even answer you calls?” I sigh. When did I get calls from her recently? “I didn’t get any that I know of” I say hoping I said what she wanted to hear. “Not one call, what a load of crap, I have called you at least five times in the past 48 hours” she screams. Spaz much. “Well I haven’t had any calls from anyone in at least a week”. “Oh well it doesn’t matter, party at my place tonight, you in? She questions. I had plans with Noah but I guess one night with the girls wouldn’t hurt. “Ugh, well”. Before I have a chance to speak Sav interrupts. “Right you’re in, see you around six, bring Noah if you want, love yah” she says before the line goes dead. “Okay, love you too” I say out loud. Didn’t even get a say. That’s savannah for you.
