Hi pookiesssssssss! Don't all jump me at once. I didn't plan on being away so long😩
Angela
I woke up before my alarm. Not because I had to, but because my mind wouldn't let me sleep any longer. The night before was still sitting with me, soft and warm, and every time I closed my eyes I saw her again. The way she looked at me across that table. The way she said my name in the car.
I rolled over onto my back and stared at the ceiling, smiling to myself.
"Okay," I whispered. "Get it together."
Today was my turn.
I reached over to my nightstand and grabbed the small notebook where I had written everything down. Times, locations, reservations, backup plans just in case something went wrong. Whitney had made me write it out like I was preparing for a production.
"You cannot freestyle romance at this level," she had told me the night before.
I flipped through the pages, scanning everything again even though I already knew it by heart. Jazz club. Wine tasting. Dance class. I smiled wider. "She has no idea," I murmured. My phone was already in my hand before I could second guess it. I dialed her number, sitting up against the headboard, pulling the blanket around me. She answered on the second ring.
"Good morning." Her voice alone did something to me. Good morning," I said, softer than I intended. "You're up early."
"So are you."
"I usually am," she replied. "You however are not a morning person."
"You know I'm not." I said honestly. "But I had motivation today." I could hear the smile in her silence. "Mm," she hummed. "Should I be concerned?"
"Not at all," I said quickly. "Just... be ready."
"For what?" I leaned back, grinning. "I'm not telling you everything."
"Angela."
"Phylicia," I echoed right back.
She exhaled softly, amused.
"You're enjoying this."
"I am," I admitted. "You had your mysterious, impressive night. Now it's my turn." There was a brief pause, then—"Do I need to dress a certain way?" "Yes." I said simply. "How helpful," she said dryly.
I let out a small laugh because I could sense her irritation from her not knowing. One thing I learned about Phylicia is that she loathes not knowing or being in control. I'm going to milk it as much as I can on this date.
"Comfortable but nice. And wear shoes you can move in." There was a shift on her end. "Move in?" "Don't overthink it," I said quickly. "Just trust me." "I do trust you," she said, and the way she said it made me sit up a little straighter. "Good," I replied, quieter now. "I'll pick you up at three."
