Chapter 1

Sage Sullivan awakened with one of the worst headaches. It felt like a mac-truck was bashing her skull in. She tossed and turned last night. Her nightmares tortured her from time to time. Last night was one of those nights.

She was staring at her reflection in the mirror for a moment. Her eyes were reddish and puffy. She sighed then opened the medicine cabinet. She retrieved the Advil from the cabinet. She opened the container, took two Advil out, placing the cap back on the bottle. She put the bottle back on the shelf closing the cabinet door. She turned on the faucet and took the pills with water. Then she twisted the handle off. She looked at herself once more in the mirror. She realized she needed to put a couple of visine drops into her eyes in order to get the redness out.

Afterwards she went downstairs to the kitchen to put the coffee on. God knows she needed some. She went to the kitchen door then opened it, welcoming the morning sun on her light-brown heart shaped face. She touched her cheeks as the warm wind blow across her attractive face. She looked at her beautiful garden of flowers. She had all kinds of flowers in her backyard most of them she didn’t know the names of. They were the colors of a rainbow.

She just loved the gorgeous vision they provided her each sunny morning she opened her backdoor. The sun’s rays shined wonderfully over her flowers. It made her backyard appear magical. Sage planted the flowers after she and Luke moved in. It seemed like a lifetime ago since then. They moved into the house after their one-year anniversary. Now it was only her living in the suburban neighborhood. Her husband has been dead for two years.

There was a large patio. It had tan furniture that she picked out. The patio had a large Jacuzzi with a large-sized stepladder located on the side. It was big enough to seat eight. There was also a wet bar area for entertaining, which she hadn’t done in two years. She would plan parties for special holidays and for entertaining her husband’s clients.

After her indulging of the garden, she put the coffee on and went back upstairs. She opened her spacious walk in closet turning on the light switch. She moved the clothes on the hangers back and forth searching for something to wear to work. She finally came across a pair of black slacks and a dark blue shirt. She closed the closet and placed her garments on the large antique bed. She walked over to the cherry wood dresser and turned on her stereo. She found her favorite radio station. She loved to listen to old school R&B. One of Marvin Gaye’s songs was playing “Mercy Me”.
