Chapter 3
Sage received a phone call from her sister Lora. Lora Ann Tate is three years older than her sister is. She was a restaurant manager at Sahe LaCronche. She took sometime off work for her family. She is married to Benjamin Tate. He is a successful veterinary. They have two children. One five year old-son and a two-year old daughter. They live in Atlanta, GA.
“Hi Sage, how are things with you?” She asked.
“I’m doing okay. How are you and the fam doing? I know Jayden and Lila have grown since the last time I saw them.” She lay across the bed with her legs crossed.
“Yes, hun. You know you should come for a visit. I know they would love to see their favorite aunt. I want to see you too. Has anything exciting happened since the last time we spoke?”
“I’m going to visit real soon. I promise. And Lora, its only been a few days since we last spoke. Nothing exciting to tell you. Sorry sis. What about on your end?”
“If you call the dog running through the house knocking over my furniture exciting, than that’s excitement for your ass.” She laughed. “Oh, Jayden lost a tooth the other day. And I’m thinking about going back to work in the fall. I’m not sure if I want to manage Sahe LaCroche. They said they would welcome me back whenever I was ready.”
“Well, you see, you have more exciting news than I do.” She laughed. “That’s great you want to get back into the workforce again. Have you spoken to Ben about it.?”
“Of course, I have. He’s fine with it. Hey, I saw dad about a two weeks ago. He asked about you.” She waited for Sage’s reply.
“You know I don’t give a damn about your daddy.” She said crossly. “Why do you mention him to me every time he visit’s you? I hate him. He can die and go straight to hell.” She stated cruelly.
“Sage, you can’t mean that. He’s your daddy too.” She sighed.
“Yeah, I do, Lora. He killed mommy.”
“I know you blame him for our mother’s death. He didn’t kill mommy. She was killed in a car crash, Sage. She was angry and upset. She got into the car then drove off. Daddy tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t reason with him.”
“Because the bastard cheated on her Lora, that’s why she wouldn’t reason with him. He hurt her. He betrayed our mommy.” She cried. “How can you still talk to him? How can you stand the sight of him? If he hadn’t cheated on mommy she would still be here. I would still have a mommy. I don’t want to talk about him. I love you, Lora. Tell Ben and the kids I said hi. Someone is at my door.” She lied. She didn’t want to discuss their father anymore. The more Lora tried to defend him the angrier Sage became.
Sage hadn’t seen her father since her mother’s funeral twelve years ago. Their father’s name is Cooper Taylor. He is Caucasian. Debra Taylor was their mother. She was multiracial. African American, Caucasian, and Spanish were apart of her. Their parents met about thirty years ago. Their father was a stockbroker until his wife’s death. After he lost Debra, he couldn’t concentrate on the job anymore.
Debra Taylor was a physician. She worked in pediatrics. She loved doing her job. She was a bright caring woman. She was friendly. Everyone at the hospital loved her. When she was killed in the crash, everyone took it hard. Cooper still blames himself for her death. It’s like his youngest daughter always said, if he hadn’t cheated on her she would still be alive. He believed that himself. He hated himself for it. Sometimes he wished he hadn’t confided in the girls and told them the truth what happened.
