The screaming. The crying. The heavy smell of smoke in the air. Ashes came floating down from my burning house to the fresh snow. It was beautiful if you thought about it. But not for me. My parents are in that house! I have to save them!
My vision suddenly goes black and I wake up from that terrible memory. But it was all my fault that happened.
I was outside playing with my friends;
"Come on Raven! Lets go play inside, its cold out." Nym cried out to me as I finished my snowman on the early January day. The day was January 2nd 1843 in Paris. I jumped onto a snowbank and fell through the top of the snow and screamed.
"It's cold! It's really really cold!" I yelped in half terror, half frustration.
"Come on." Xander said, holding out his hand. It was rare to hear him talk.
I quickly took his hand with a smile plastered on my face.
I couldn't help but smile when he helped me, which was a lot, so I smiled most of the day.
The three of us made our way inside of my comfy little house.
There were two floors and a basement in my house. I spent most of my time in the basement in the winter, because that's where the wood stove was, so it was really warm.
"Lets try something." Nym said, ever adventurous.
"What?" I asked.
"Lets have a campfire!" She whispered, so that only me and Xander could hear.
"No" Xander said plainly.
"Why not?" I asked myself.
I was only 6 at the time, so I didn't know any better. I gathered up some small pieces of wood and a match. I pile the wood in a pile and lit it. It smoked like crazy and then engulfed the carpet on the floor.
All we could do now was run.
Unfortunately for me, I forgot that my parents were still in the house.
All I can remember after that was screaming, crying, and the black ashes on the white snow, then passing out.
I still remember the feeling of waking up in Nym's house with Xander leaning over me. Then he did something I could have never imagined, he smiled for the first time.
"She's awake." Xander said quietly to someone on the other side of the room.
"Oh good, give her this." I slightly heard.
He reaches out and grabbed a pill.
"Can you sit up?" he asked gently, as if talking loud may burn this house down, too.
I nodded and sat up.
He handed me the pill and a small glass of water. "Take the pill please." He said.
I nodded and took the medicine that he had given me. Or I thought it was medicine, and I think that the others thought it was medicine too.
After a minute, I felt a strange presence behind me and turned around.
I screamed just like my dying parents did.
I saw a man, a tall one with a black coat, black pants, black shoes, and black hair.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Who are you talking to?" Xander asked.
I pointed to the man. "Him." And at that moment, I realized that he couldn't see the man, only I could.
"Nobody is there." Xander said questionably.
"Wait, let me talk for a second." I said a little more forcibly that I had intended. "Who are you?"
"S."
