Chapter Three
12:02 A.M., Kai's House
March 17, 2015
Kai's eyes opened slowly. He let out a soft groan which was immediately smothered by a hand with a leather glove on. "Shut up, we don't want to wake your mom up now, do we?"
Kai's eyes finished opening quickly, kneeling above him was a man dressed completely in black. A sharp fear shot through him as he thought it was the first man for a moment. After a second glance, he realized that this was a different man. He was wearing a black leather jacket, with a black shirt, accompanied by black jeans and black sneakers. He had black sunglasses on as well. Once the man was sure that Kai wasn't going to scream, he removed his hand. Kai turned his head. He was still in his room, but it was trashed. His curtains had been ripped, and his window was shattered. There was what looked like a scorch mark on his wall, and his bookcase was flipped on its back, books strewn everywhere. Part of his desk looked like someone had thrown black acid, it was steaming and hissing.
Kai looked at the man. "Who are you?" the man turned to look at him, Kai jumped when he realized that the man had crystal clear blue eyes. His eyes almost seemed to glow.
"It is not your time yet, child."
With that the man reached out and touched Kai's forehead, and Kai fell asleep.
9:15 A.M., Kai's house
March 17th, 2015
"Kai wake up."
Kai was woken up by his mother's voice. But that couldn't be, his mom had died in a car wreck when he was one, his dad told him so. "Mom?"
"Kai I need you to listen to me very carefully. He's going to come for you, and you have to be ready. I need you to be ready. Whatever you do, do not trust him."
"Who mom, don't trust who?"
"The man with the black eyes."
With that, Kai's eyes opened to see sunlight flooding in through his window. He sat up, thoroughly confused. He had heard his mom in his dreams, he was sure he had. He couldn't remember what she had told him though. He also vaguely remembered another dream about some monster. "They were just dreams." As Kai went to go get a shower, the book fell back onto the floor of its own free will.
He came back from his shower ten minutes later. Kai stood there puzzled as he stared at the book laying on the floor. "How..." he then proceeded to place the book back on the shelf. Kai stood there for a good five seconds, daring the book to move.
The book accepted the dare.
With an audible gasp Kai stepped back as he watched the book fall back to the floor. "What the..." Kai picked up the book and turned it over. It was plain black leather on both sides, except for a golden "L" on the front. Kai had never seen the book before, but it felt familiar in his hands, as if it belonged there. He walked over to his desk and placed the book down on it. Instantly the book started to move towards him.
Kai pulled out his phone and texted Hannah. He saw that the last few messages were from yesterday, Hannah texting him with a question on the math homework, and him responding. He texted her.
dude, theres a book moving by itself
Are you drunk?
no it's seriously moving by itself
Text me when you're sober.
"Ugh," Kai knew that Hannah wouldn't talk to him if she thought he was drunk. He was about to try and call her when the book flipped off the desk and landed open. He bent down and picked it up, noticing something.
All of the book's pages were blank. As Kai leafed through the pages, he noticed that every single one of them were blank. There was one more thing that made the book strange, the pages seemed to give off a slight light of their own. Kai went and sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the book. This was when the page he was on flashed with light, and words were suddenly there. Golden words, glowing. Meet me at the library at 10. This is a matter of life and death. After getting past the initial shock of the words appearing, Kai had an idea. He went and got a pen and returned. As he was about to write on the page, more words appeared. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING THIS ISN'T HARRY POTTER!
Kai took the pen away from the paper, his hand shaking. The first message repeated once again, and then the book stopped glowing. Kai didn't know what was happening, but he had enough common sense to know not to go to an unknown meeting with an unknown individual unarmed. So he pulled a box out from under his bed, opened it, and retrieved the 5 inch hunting dagger from it. He also change into his shoes that had a built in sheathe for the blade and he slid it into them. Now, fully armed and ready for whatever life had in store for him at that library, he told his dad he would be there, and he left the house.
9:20 A.M., House of Becca Wilson
June 31, 1802
Becca was confused. She didn't know what had happened. One minute she was sitting in her chair enjoying a particularly good book, and the next both of her wrists were tied to the chair she had been sitting in previously. She tried to move her wrists and the rope instantly got a little tighter. "What the hell?" she stared at the rope, trying to see anything unusual about them. It looked like normal rope, but normal rope doesn't tighten by itself. She was wondering what to do when a man appeared in the doorway. He was wearing a long black cloak that dragged behind him as he walked, and he had black circular sunglasses covering his eyes.
Just the sight of him made Becca fill with rage. She knew this man, knew what he was capable of, what he was willing to do to get what he wanted. And she knew how to beat him.
Where is it, the man's mouth hadn't moved.
A small smile played over Becca's face. She said nothing.
Don't play games with me child, even though the man wasn't speaking, his voice radiated irritation.
Becca stared into his glasses with a serious expression. "It's too late for you. You've already lost," Back again was the smile. "The seed has been planted, and once he realizes who he is, you'll be nothing but a shadow.
The man stared at her for a moment, then his mouth spread into a menacing grin. That's a cute story. Now let me explain to you how this is going to work. I'm going to kill you, and then I'm going to track him down, and I'm going to snuff out his light before it even lights.
"That is also cute. You see, you can kill me, but you can't kill him. Not now at least," Becca's voice was strong and defiant. She was not going to be like one of those victims who screamed when the first attack was made. No, for Becca there would only be one attack, and her death would be quick and painful, but she would have died fighting back, not giving in. "Go ahead, kill me. You know you want to, old friend."
The man stood there for a second, as though trying to comprehend everything she had just said. You can't talk your way out of this one.
"I didn't plan on it," with those words a spear of golden energy shot straight towards the man's chest, impaling him. He cried out once, and then slumped to the ground, landing on his stomach. His ragged breathing could be heard from where Becca was sitting. You Bitch.
Becca calmly undid the ropes binding her, and stood up. She walked towards him, and stood above him. She leaned down to his ear, and whispered softly, "You were always the ignorant kind, weren't you James." She didn't see the humanoid shaped shadow holding a knife behind her. In a split second the knife did its job, there was a sharp intake of breath, and there were two dead bodies found in the house of Becca Wilson the next morning.
