~Devon's POV~
I kept my eyes down at my hands in my lap. I twiddled my thumbs, completely avoiding any contact with anyone. I honestly don't even know if anyone tried to send me any looks of pity, or "Sympathy". I kept replaying the image of her just turning and walking away, over and over again in my mind. 'So much for your confidence douchebag...' I said to myself in my mind.
My eyes moved up slightly to the milkshake, which I had won. Every time I looked at it, the same feelings of pride and embarrassment sent a pang through my body. As amazing as it looked, I didn't want to drink it. I lifted my eyes slightly to see Syd's tired sparkling hazel eyes staring at it.
I chuckled slightly, which was the first noise that had left my mouth since the whole incident, of making myself look like a cocky douchebag. I slid it over to her and gave her a warm smile. She grinned gleefully and immediately took a sip. I turned my head slightly to the left to hear Mike let out a whine. "Hey! That's not fair!" He said with a frown. I shrugged a little. "Sorry buddy." I said with a chuckle.
I just realized not one person said anything about what just happened; not even Jake. I guess they all took a hint that I was thoroughly embarrassed.
I heard Jake clear his throat; sure of the fact he was trying to get my attention. My eyes shot up at him and I gave him a what-the-fuck-do-you-want glare. I guess I thought too soon, here was Jake to make his stupid comment. His eyebrows shot up and he leaned back slightly out of surrender. He gave a slight nod to the right as he motioned over at something slightly with his fingers, which we still held tightly around Syd.
I looked at Syd at first and creased my brow. What about Syd? Was he just rubbing it in that he could get a girl and that I failed miserably at it? My eyes shot back at him. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand, giving me a silent 'No you idiot!' He nodded his head even more dramatically than the first time to the right. My eyes followed his motion and- Fuck.
Natalie was walking towards the table carrying a large tray of our burgers. Damn, I'm surprised she could carry that with her dainty little body. My thoughts snapped back to the situation and sped up instantaneously. Should I say something about what happened? Should I just ignore it? What am I going to say if she says something about it?
I tapped my fingers on the table nervously, shit. I was just going to wing it; I already fucked up any chance of getting with her so it doesn't matter anyways. I watched as she came close and set the tray down on our table. Her eyes flickered at me as she set down a plate in front of me first, and she then nodded her head down slightly towards the plate.
I knit my brows together as I gave her a little look of embarrassment and apology. She smiled at me warmly and her blazing blue eyes flashed down at the plate again. I finally brought my eyes down and was expecting to just see a plate with a delicious looking burger and fries but was surprised to see that, as well as a beautifully written red word on the edge of my plate.
I read it and a beaming grin grew on my face. So I didn't fuck up everything. I glanced back up and Natalie and gave her a wink, damn that was yet another cocky move. "When do you get off?" I said quietly hoping to shield it from eavesdroppers.
~Natalie's POV~
I grinned wildly at Devon, keeping my eyes glued to him even as I set down the other plates. I broke my gaze to look over at the neon red Coca-Cola clock that was mounted on the wall. It was only 1:30 AM. I sighed a little before giving Devon a warm smile again. "I don't get off until 4, unfortunately." I said with a small frown as I focused on him; being completely oblivious of the fact that I was surrounded by my nosy friends.
My head whipped in Syd's direction as she chews loudly and slurps from the milkshake that I thought was Devon's. "You should ask Tasha if she can take your shift so you can get off early." She blurts. I narrow my eyes slightly at her; I know what she's trying to do.
She has been trying to get me to date a guy for as long as I can remember, but being as "picky" as I am with guys; I just never got around to it. I know she sees potential in Devon and she's going to do anything in her willpower to rush it. The only problem with that is that she's also extremely protective of me. She will rush something and then end up being upset if it gets too quick. I don't want her to ruin things between Devon and I (if there's even going to be anything to ruin) because something just seems so perfect about him.
As much as I don't want her to rush this, I feel this sudden urge to rush it myself. I give her a small smile. "That's not a bad idea Syd." I say with a giggle.
A/N: I'm sorry about the bad quality of this chapter! It's pretty much just a filler and not much happens, not to mention its shorter than the others. I am a little stuck but I have an idea for the next chapter! Thank you for reading! I promise it gets better~
