~Natalie's POV~

I bolted my eyes away from him as I turned back to the group. I quickly realized that although they were all my friends, I was still at work and I still had to do my job as a waitress. I opened my mouth to address the group. "Well guys, I can take you to your table." I said with uneasy smile, trying to forget how I just embarrassed myself in front of him. I grabbed 4 menus by instinct but then snatched another and lead everyone to the same corner booth they always sat at when they came to visit me. I watched as everyone slid into their spot and then watched Devon slide onto the end next to Mike. Great. He was closest to me, this could only end badly. I tucked a stray piece of hair behind my ear as I forced my eyes to not linger on his body. His arms just filled that red Adidas hoodie so perfectly and his perfect jawline- Shit! I was staring again. I broke my stare and was greeted with a smirk from Jake. I rolled my eyes before attempting to change the subject. "Why did you guys come anyways?" I asked curiously. Kyle was about to answer but was cut off by Syd's slurred sentence. "The party sucked" she spit out. It took me a minute to understand what she said but once I did I let out a little giggle. It seemed like just a chore for her to speak. I don't think I've ever seen her this wasted. It didn't match her bubbly personality at all, which I found amusing. I noticed Mike tapping his finger impatiently against the table. "Oh Mike, I'm guessing you must be starving." I said with a laugh following. "YES! Finally someone noticed!" He said with relief. I knew him too well. I looked back at everyone. "Well, for Mike's sanity can I start taking orders?" I said with an amused smile. Obviously Mike was the first to blurt out "Cheeseburger and fries!" I scribbled it down and barely lift my head up to hear Kyle. "Make that 2." Alright. I looked at Jake with his arm around Syd. She was squinting at the menu and trying to read it. Jake grabbed the menu from her and set it down. "Hey!" she protested with a pout and a frustrated sigh. "You aren't gonna eat much anyways" He said sweetly to calm her. "We'll just share what everyone else is having." He said as he looked up at me. I changed the 'X2' on my note pad to 'X3'. I hesitantly looked over at the one face I was trying to avoid. "I'll make this easy on you, I'll have the same thing" he said with his charming smile. Thank god I didn't get locked into his eyes this time! I looked at Mike as he complained. "Hey! You guys are just copycats!" he said as he crossed his arms and creased his brow. "Aww, poor Mikey!" Kyle taunted and ruffled Mike's hair. "Shut up." Mike said as he swatted away Kyle's hand and gave him a death glare. I laughed. "Oh you guys..." I said as I walked away to go put in the order.

~Devon Bishop's POV~

From the second my eyes landed on her, I couldn't keep them off. She was drop dead gorgeous. When Jake bothered me to go to that stupid party, I couldn't regret it more but as soon as I stepped foot into the diner, it was the best decision I ever made. But for god's sake, why did I have to drink? The alcohol is going to mess up her first impression of me entirely. Fantastic. But what was I thinking anyways? Even if I was sober, what made me think she was going to like me anyways? I shook my head slightly to snap out of these thoughts as I heard her laugh from the others messing around. It was freaking adorable! I looked up at her to make eye contact for a split-second as she walked off towards the kitchen. Goddamn. Those brilliant blue eyes were hypnotizing. I looked back down. I never talked much; I was a really shy guy. My thoughts kept wandering back to her. Her hand in mine, her eyes on mine, her lips on mine, her sweet voice calling my name- oh wait no. "DEV! DEVON!" I jumped a little as my eyes bolted to Jake. "What do you want?!" I snapped without even thinking about the fact that others were here. "Jeez! I was trying to get your attention for like 5 minutes! What the hell were you thinking about?" I turned red as my eyes darted in Natalie's direction on their own. "What? Nothing." I sputter. I was praying that it wasn't noticeable, but of course it was. Jake gently slid out of the booth around Sydney and stood up. He immediately came over and pulled me out of the booth before pulling me away by my arm. "We'll be right back." He said to the group with a smile. What the hell was he doing? Once we got far enough away from booth he leaned in close. "You like her, don't you?" He said with a smirk. I turned red and bit my lip. I rubbed the back of my neck with my hand and shrugged. My mind was screaming, 'YES OF COURSE! I LOVE HER SHE'S PERFECT!' But all I managed to spit out was "Yeah, she's pretty cute." Wait, how am I falling in love with a girl I know nothing about? God, this can't be happening again. I fall in love with these girls who I barely know and up getting emotionally pulverized... My thoughts were interrupted when I felt Jake pat me on the back. "Why do you care anyways?" I asked as my brow creased. "Dude, just trust me. You better be glad Syd's drunk, If not you would be harassed relentlessly" He said with a chuckle. "Whatever." I said with another shrug. As we walked back to the booth Natalie came out of the kitchen carrying a tray. I stopped dead in my tracks. "What are you guys doing?" She said with that unrealistically perfect smile. I looked at Jake for cover-up, I was a terrible liar. "What? Oh we were just looking at the jukebox." Jake said confidently. Damn. I need to learn to lie like that. I just nodded to agree. "Oh alright." She sung melodically before continuing off to one of the other tables. I sighed in relief and we kept walking. Jake didn't even seem phased at all. We got back to the booth and I slid in where I was sitting. Syd's eyes moved back and forth between us. I guess she was drunk, but not drunk enough to know something was up. "What was that about?" She asked. "Nothing babe." Jake said as he snaked an arm around her. Mike, Kyle, and I looked away as he kissed her, I guess it was just to stop her from asking more but it was still uncomfortable for us. I looked over towards the kitchen right as Nat stepped out carrying a tray of drinks towards us. I couldn't help but stare at her flawlessness.

A/N: Is this moving too slow? Shall I try to pick up the pace at all? Do you like it so far? Do you want me to make the chapters a little longer? I'm sorry it's a little boring at first, but I promise it gets better! Just hold on tight! Thanks for reading!
